Our ministry provides safe and secure Christian homes for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our homes and programs foster personal growth, encourage independence, and stimulate the emotional, spiritual, and intellectual well-being of those we serve.
Covenant Ability Network of Michigan belongs to the Covenant Ability Network family, which operates 18 homes serving nearly 100 families across three states. Our community residences here in Michigan have affiliated communities located in Oak Forest, Illinois (Covenant Ability Network of Illinois), as well as in Duluth and the Twin Cities area of Minnesota (Covenant Ability Network of Minnesota). Covenant Ability Network of Michigan is a subsidiary of Covenant Initiatives for Care, of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Position Summary
Covenant Ability Network of Michigan (CANMI) seeks an Executive Director to lead our organization, fulfill our mission, and drive institutional success in the areas of housing and programming excellence, organizational leadership, operational efficiency and effectiveness, financial growth and sustainability, governmental relations and advocacy, fundraising, communications, and community relations. The Executive Director will cultivate and steward relationships with key stakeholders, including our residents, the families of the residents, donors, board members, volunteers, churches and affiliates of the Evangelical Covenant Church, other area churches, publicly elected officials, community leaders, county-level and state governmental agencies, external service providers, community partners, and vendors. The Executive Director oversees four Adult Foster Care (AFC) facilities—Faith House and Hope House in Grand Rapids and Mary’s House and Joseph’s House in Muskegon—housing 24 adults with developmental disabilities. The Executive Director leads a staff of approximately 30 and is responsible for an annual operating budget of approximately $1.2 million.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for our organization, and ensure the fulfillment of CANMI’s mission of extending dignity to every individual by optimizing independence and encouraging health and hope through community.
- Ensure that each CANMI resident receives quality housing and person-centered care, so that they can live dignified and purposeful lives.
- Lead a staff of approximately 30 employees, attracting and retaining qualified individuals, and fostering their ongoing growth, training, teamwork, accountability, and engagement.
- Develop strategic plans in conjunction with staff, the Board of Directors, stakeholders, and Covenant Initiatives for Care (CIC) to develop and further grow the agency, providing new services, programs, and funding streams.
- Develop organizational strategy and goals, and monitor progress toward achieving them.
- Oversee all operations and drive organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee the four Adult Foster Care facilities CANMI operates, maintaining the exceptional housing, services, and person-centered care we provide to adults with developmental disabilities.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with the licensing, rules, and regulations of Adult Foster Care facilities.
- Nurture fiscal stability, and ensure long-term financial sustainability through diverse revenue streams.
- Develop and implement an annual organizational budget.
- Engage in networking and advocacy efforts with public officials and civic leaders at the city, county, and state levels, to secure greater funding and increase awareness of CANMI and the disability community.
- Oversee relations with the board, utilizing their time, talent, and networks to grow and strengthen CANMI.
- Lead fundraising efforts, actively working to maintain existing donors, while also cultivating new relationships with businesses, churches, foundations, and individual donors.
- Organize at least one signature fundraising event annually.
- Identify opportunities to advocate and increase awareness through presentations, speaking engagements, networking, and community outreach.
- Increase brand awareness through a strong social media presence, the CANMI website, and digital communications.
Qualifications
· Leadership experience required
· Bachelor’s degree in a human services or management-related field
· Experience with the developmental disability community is required
· Knowledge of licensing, rules, and regulations for Adult Foster Care facilities
· Skills and experience in the areas of programming and services management, stakeholder cultivation and relationship-building, public speaking, fiscal management, fundraising, operations, and human resources
