What are the responsibilities and job description for the Receiving Clerk position at Covenant Soup Kitchen?
The Receiving Clerk oversees the safe, sanitary and efficient processing, storage and distribution of all deliveries and donations to the organization. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate is friendly, reliable, energetic and must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a very dynamic team at this nonprofit organization. On the job training will be provided by an experienced staff person.
Responsibilities and Duties
-work closely with the Kitchen Manager and other staff to ensure the highest quality meals and products are available when needed
-receive and inspect incoming shipments of food, supplies and other materials and verify invoices
-sort and organize received items in designated dry storage and cold storage areas according to all food safety and sanitation standards
-pick up or deliver donations when needed, using organization’s pick-up and box van
-unload and unpack items from delivery trucks using a pallet jack or other equipment to assist and unloading
-provide effective training, leadership and supervision of numerous volunteers
-treat guests with compassion, dignity and respect
-communicate regularly with donors to the organization regarding deliveries, receipts, etc.
-ensure proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards are met at all times
-ensure proper receiving procedures for donations and distributions
-ensure safe, clean and organized food storage areas and rotate stock effectively
-maintain proper records and documentation of donations, food temperatures, etc.
-assist in all other areas of the organization when needed
Skills
-caring and service oriented with a commitment to the mission of the organization
-excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills
-exceptional organization and time management skills
-understanding of computer use (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Google calendar, pantry database)
-ability to speak and understand Spanish would be helpful but is not required
-able to stand, navigate stairs, lift and carry 50 pounds consistently
-first aid training will be provided
Job Qualifications
Education – High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
Familiarity with basic math skills for counting, calculating quantities
Ability to operate a pallet jack or other material handling equipment safely and efficiently
Must have or obtain ServSafe Food Service Manager certification
Must be able to work some weekends and rotating holidays
Experience
-Previous experience in a receiving or warehouse environment preferred
-Two years of experience in food service preferred
