Covert Public Schools is located in Van Buren County, Michigan, home of the Bulldogs. Covert was established in 1865 where rich timberlands initially attracted early settlers to the community. State parks along Lake Michigan provide picnic areas for family get-togethers. Lake Michigan’s summer outdoor recreation opportunities include paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling trails. Activities in between the seasons include biking and hiking trails.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Education required.
- Current State teaching certificate required.
- NS endorsement is required.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The classroom teacher will be responsible for the direct instruction of students, planning instruction, setting goals, and implementing curriculum; clear and timely communication to parents regarding standards and students' achievements and deficiencies; teaching good study habits; monitoring and assessing academic processes; working with student specialists, parents, and administration to develop individual education plans, provide independent study plans, and provide academic remediation as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for student learning through speaking practice, vocabulary enrichment, reading/writing and language skills to students learning English as a Second Language (ESL).
2. To prepare lesson plans, exercises and tests.
3. To test, evaluate and counsel the student regarding his/her classroom performance.
4. Maintain a safe and orderly classroom.
5. Plan and implement classroom instruction using best practices and strategies which effects student learning.
6. Manage students and set up classroom routines which enhance student learning and reduce abhorrent behavior.
7. Develop relationships with students and parents that enhance the learning environment.
8. Communication effectively with parents regarding student achievement and behavior.
9. Continually improve professional practice and engagement activities to maximize skill set to improve student achievement.
10. Work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to meet goals of building/district.
11. Effectively use data to make decisions relevant to instruction.
12. Knowledgeable content so as to have capacity to modify and develop curriculum to maximize student achievement.
13. Attend staff meetings and district planned professional development.
14. Maintain complete and accurate student and academic records.
15. Order and maintain appropriate levels of textbook and instructional materials and equipment.
16. Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills.
17. Follow directives from the principal.
18. Sets an example of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, self- motivation, and self- discipline for students.
19. Assist with the annual WIDA assessment of all English Language Learners enrolled in the assigned school district during the assessment window. Meet with local district administrators to review assessment results, review the district’s Language Assistance Plan, and exit and/or re-enter students based upon their annual assessment results and MDE Entrance/Exit protocol of ELLs.
20. Comply with School Board policies and all state and federal regulations.
