/The Peer Recovery Coach plays a vital role in providing support to individuals navigating challenges related to addiction recovery. This position is designed for individuals who have personal experience with recovery, identify as a person in long-term recovery from substance use disorder, and are passionate about helping others achieve their goals. The Peer Recovery Coach will utilize their lived experiences and training to foster a supportive environment, encouraging peers who have custodial challenges and may or may not have an open Department of Family and Children Services case with substance use and may or may not have Coweta County Family Treatment Court involvement to find their pathway to recovery and make healthy lifestyle choices to support their recovery. This position will require weekly court appearances with peers being served, attendance at court staff meetings, data entry, and data tracking. Collaborate closely with the PEPA Program Coordinator and Coweta FORCE Executive Leadership to ensure consistency in providing services at our location in Lagrange, GA as well as services in the Family Treatment Court. Ensure the principles and values of recovery and Coweta FORCE are upheld in all services provided to individuals, family members, friends, and allies. Work closely with Coweta FORCE leadership and managers of other projects and services. Support and develop collaboration between Coweta FORCE, community partners, and the surrounding community. A valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and a reliable vehicle are required.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to clients, helping them set and achieve personal goals related to recovery and wellness.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage clients in meaningful conversations about their progress.
- Assist peers in navigating community resources and services related to addiction recovery.
- Collaborate with other professionals in the field to ensure comprehensive care for peers.
- Serve as a mentor, sharing personal experiences that promote hope and empowerment.
- Work with Coweta FORCE Executive Leadership and PEPA Program Coordinator, to coordinate all aspects of the PEPA Program.
- Coordinate outreach to the community to promote Coweta FORCE. Collaborate with community-based recovery support and service providers.
- Supports the work of Coweta FORCE and collaborates with members of other program teams to promote the overall mission and work of Coweta FORCE.
- Reports to work as scheduled. Follows agency procedure for reporting absence. Puts in hours required to meet responsibilities. Models good attendance/time management. Travels as required.
- Serve as an effective recovery coach when necessary and provide follow-up as required.
- Work closely with court staff, DFCS staff, CASA, and court attorneys
- Perform follow-up for peers/support persons who receive services in the PEPA Program
- Work closely with the PEPA Program Coordinator on evaluation, data tracking, and record-keeping
- Continue to seek new ways to improve processes and support for the PEPA Program
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Motivational interviewing skills are preferred but not required.
- Personal lived experience in addiction recovery from substance use disorder.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A passion for mentoring others and fostering a supportive community environment.
- Must be CARES eligible upon hire and obtain CARES certification within 12 months of hire.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of addiction recovery.
- Active Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES) certification. (Preferred)
- Ability to provide development and performance support for multiple CARES recovery coaches.
- Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff, partners in hospitals, and community partners.
- Cultural Competency skills and experience with culturally diverse populations.
- Strong customer service ethic.
- Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient in data entry.
- Experience working in or around a healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience working in a HIPPA-compliant environment is preferred.
- Family Treatment Court experience preferred.
- Department of Family and Children Services past involvement required.
- Valid U.S. Drivers License required
- High School or equivalent is required.
