Cowlitz Habitat Store Manager Job Description

Title: Store Manager

Reports To: CEO and Operations Director

Direct Reports: All Store Staff, Interns and Volunteers

Summary: At Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH) Store, we believe in the power of community, sustainability, and making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve. Join us on our mission to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to serve as our STORE MANAGER, playing a pivotal role in advancing our goals of recycling, minimizing landfill waste, and providing affordable home improvement items; Increase CCHFH visibility and revenue to further advance our service throughout Cowlitz County.

As a vital member of our team, the Store Manager will act as an ambassador of our organization, understanding the profound impact that every interaction can have on our community. The role involves managing day-to-day operations, actively participating in future planning, and representing the Store at public and community events as directed. Specific responsibilities include:

Operations

  • Administer the Store with a strong commitment to integrity, recognizing that it serves as a crucial first impression of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Ensure the store is well-staffed with volunteers who share our passion for making a difference.
  • Provide quality customer service and handle grievances professionally.
  • Maintain the facility, equipment and vehicles with sustainability in mind.
  • Maintain up to date filing system and proper record retention and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and comply with accident procedures.
  • Support securing and reserving donations for CCHFH houses.
  • Develop a marketing plan to increase the store’s visibility in the community.
  • Oversee merchandizing efforts to maximize display space, utilizing inventory control and pricing for appropriate turnover.

Staff and Volunteer Management

  • Implement and maintain personnel policies that align with our mission.
  • Train and manage Store staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, team-oriented environment.
  • Recruit and recognize volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Address policy violations by staff and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Evaluate staff performance in accordance with job descriptions and performance evaluation procedures.

Reporting and Communications

  • Ensure regular staff meetings are held to promote effective communication.
  • Keep the CEO and Operations Director informed of operational and financial matters.
  • Establish and implement donor recognition program.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other Habitat for Humanity Store managers.
  • Monthly written report of sales activities, expenses, volunteer hours and outreach efforts.
  • Track sales data to determine categories w/ high to low volume-adjust & provide report to CEO.

Finance and Administration

  • Implement and monitor systems for daily cash transactions and deposits.
  • Ensure monthly expenditures are within budget; request exceptions for increases.
  • Work with Senior Mgmt. to develop annual operating budget, recommend capital expenditures.

Policy and Planning

  • Develop and recommend policies that support our sales, salvage, material acquisition and staffing objectives.
  • Assist in development of marketing and advertising strategies integrated with the overall CCHFH plan.
  • Present policy proposals to CEO and Director of Operations for review and implementation.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors to increase quality and quantity of donations.

Required Skills/ Experience/ Physical Requirements

  • Dedication and ability to articulate the mission and core values of CCHFH.
  • Adaptability, quick decision-making, and problem-solving in changing conditions.
  • Self–motivation with a positive and respectful attitude in a diverse environment.
  • Leadership and training skills for volunteers.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing and construction materials.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Cursory knowledge of building materials.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, emails and social media.
  • Ability to post items to social media and sell sites and monitor and respond as needed
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle unexpected shifts in priorities.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed.
  • Driver’s License and ability to pull clean abstract report.
  • Appropriate discernment skills and ability to handle confidential situations professionally

  • Build store assets and enhance the mission of CCHFH.
  • Demonstrate initiative and independent action in handling assigned tasks.
  • Strong, kindly communication with donors, customers, volunteers, partner families and staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of operations policies and procedures.

Starting Compensation: $22 to $24 per hour and/or dependent upon retail and management experience; (Full Time – 40 hours per week Tues-Sat); Medical benefits, paid holidays & vacation after 90 day probationary period and sick time immediately; IRA Company Match after 1 year.
