Organization Overview

Coyote Central is an education nonprofit that provides creative classes and public art opportunities to young people. Coyote Central sparks creativity in young people, putting tools in their hands to build skills and forge their future. Over 1,000 young people ages 10 to 15 come to Coyote Central year-round for hands-on workshops with professional artists, chefs, furniture makers, fashion designers, metal artists, animators, dancers, filmmakers, and many other creative people.

Job Summary

Our programs are the heart of the work we do. The Program Coordinator (PC) plays a crucial role in supporting our programs, ensuring they are safe, inclusive, engaging, and impactful for youth ages 10-15. This position will focus on connecting and nurturing relationships with our youth and their families, community organizations and school partners. They will coordinate and participate in community outreach and recruiting, with a particular focus on balancing outreach to both hard-to-reach families and diverse communities. They also play an integral role in offering support to youth and Teaching Artists in studio spaces and families and ensure all individuals benefit from a supportive environment at Coyote Central.

This is a full-time role in our Central District location that also requires onsite support on weekends during program sessions. The PC will collaborate with the Program Manager to establish a regular full-time work schedule that aligns with program needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Program Support & Coordination (40%)

  • Oversee the creation of student rosters and notes for Studio Coyote courses
  • Support families in-person and over the phone with registration and payment.
  • Observe, evaluate, and update Teaching Artist tools for behavior and engagement support
  • Provide Teaching Artists with support for behavior related issues, including recommendations based on student behavior notes. Support student conflict resolution
  • Oversee daily attendance and student follow-up phone calls
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Program Manager to provide capacity building experiences for Teaching Artists, Studio Assistants, and Mentors
  • Collaborate with Weekend Interns to ensure programmatic success.

Recruitment and Partnership Stewardship (35%)

  • Lead program recruitment for Central District campus year-round (in-school presentations, phone recruiting, tabling)
  • Foster and support new connections with schools, social service agencies, non-profits & community organizations
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to support student engagement
  • Collaborate with school and youth-service personnel to identify and recruit hard-to-reach youth
  • Work with communications support staff to prepare visual & promotional materials for engagement efforts
  • Create and maintain a database of resource organizations within the art and non-profit communities

Youth and Family Engagement (25%)

  • Increase contact with Coyote families with a particular focus on those who experience systemic barriers
  • Collaborate with Program Manager to solicit regular feedback from students and families through talk-backs and surveys
  • Work one-on-one with youth who need additional support
  • Promote special programs or events offered by Coyote Central or community partners
  • Coordinate youth participation and work elevation in fundraisers, parades, and other special events

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in program coordination and/or background in Education (Formal or Informal)
  • Prior experience working with young people in a leadership capacity (preferred not required)
  • Prior experience working with diverse groups of youth, families or similar (preferred not required) of youth
  • Personal integrity and a passion for enriching the lives of youth through creativity
  • Strong communicator, capable of guiding and motivating diverse groups in various settings and cultures, including ongoing, values-oriented communication with youth and their families.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion, with a willingness to self-reflect and continue learning.
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented problem solver
  • Proficiency in use of technology, including scheduling and spreadsheet management software.
  • Brings a diverse perspective and lived experience to the role.
  • Education: Professional Degree or Certification in Education, Human/Youth Development, or Education adjacent field (preferred)

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Passion for Coyote’s mission.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Regularly scheduled attendance on weekends is required during programming to provide oversight and support of programs and activities. Up to 10% of time traveling.

Requirements for Staff Upon Hire:

  • First Aid Certification (required, training provided if needed)
  • Mandated Reporter Certification (required, training provided if needed)
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Certification (required, training provided if needed)
  • Deescalation Certification (required, training provided if needed)
  • Food Worker Card training (required, training provided if needed)

Compensation & Benefits Package

The expected salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000. Most offers are on the lower end of the salary range and are at the organization’s sole discretion based on the final candidate’s experience. This allows us to provide a fair and equitable approach to compensation when setting pay and maintaining internal pay equity.

We also offer a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees that includes:

  • Health Benefits: Partially paid Medical (Employee responsibility between $30-$90 per month) and 100% employer-paid Dental and Vision
  • SIMPLE IRA Match
  • Paid Time Off includes 4 weeks time off, 16 holidays, Post Summer Break (Week of Labor Day), Winter Break (1 week during December, exact dates vary each year) and 24 volunteer hours
