JOB TITLE : ENGINEERING MANAGER
REPORTS TO : PRESIDENT
OBJECTIVE : Lead mechanical and design engineering. Responsible for the supervision of engineers and primary engineering contact inside and outside of company.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Direct the day to day operations of the Engineering Department. Supervise mechanical, electrical, systems and manufacturing engineers. Direct the activities of any contract engineering consultants. Support requests for quote efforts in a timely manner. From drawings identify material, blank size and any tooling required for sub contracts received. Under direction of the President and with purchasing support assist with cost estimation of direct material as well as outside processes as needed. Research specifications and material types. Support Quality efforts in the interface with customer quality contacts
Provide support and help plan the design, development, integration and test of complex military components (i.e power systems, network communication and control systems) and high reliability systems. Supervise and ensure compliance with engineering processes and procedures. Supervise and plan program requirements and develop mechanical systems architecture. Knowledge of Welding, finishing, forming and machining required. Support and work with Production management to ensure proper fabrication of components. Supervise and plan detailed mechanical design including factors such as packaging, structural, thermal, vibration and shock from the systems architecture.
Supervise multi-disciplinary tests. Represent company in customer design reviews and meetings. Develop design review packages. Develop and perform qualification tests such as shock, vibration and thermal in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team. Develop test plans and reports. Lead the creation of drawings and Bill of Material (BOM)
Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop built to print packages.
Develop specifications for suppliers and subcontractors in support of mechanical designs and production. Supervise a team of engineers and technicians including the assignment of tasks, reviewing results and managing cost and schedules. Mentor and coach staff including the development of technical skills and promoting team work.
QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and 15 years of successful engineering experience in high reliability military systems. Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) preferred. Experience in military programs, requirements and design processes required. Must be proficient with SOLID WORKS and the MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, WORD, EXCEL). Proficiency with thermal, vibration, shock and structural theory is required. Must demonstrate the ability to develop proficiency in VISIO, Auto Cad and MS Project.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with suppliers, customers, colleagues, management and promote team work. Occasional travel to customer or supplier facilities required.
This is a full time exempt position with a path to additional responsibility
