Pay Grade

Position Summary

Ensures that Units are operated safely, efficiently and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures / Requirements while maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel. Interacts daily with Energy Market Operations to review unit operating status and schedule maintenance outages that minimize generation and financial impact to the system. Reviews the status of units daily with the Plant Director and Maintenance Manager to evaluate outstanding issues that need repair for proper unit operation and safety. Provides supervision to Operations personnel to ensure Operation issues are addressed and Standard Operators procedures are followed. Monitors Unit and Environmental parameters to ensure compliance.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe operation of units while maintaining optimal performance to maintain unit reliability and availability.
  • Overseas Operations Safety program at plant location for staff personnel and contractors.
  • Active plant safety leader – facilitates / ensures operations safety meetings occur start of each shift, leads operator stretching programs.
  • Works closely with Environmental team to coordinate maintenance activities to protect the environment and maintain permit compliance.
  • Completes and delivers performance appraisals to wage scale and salaried employees.
  • Leads operations team in developing employee engagement initiatives.
  • Performs incident command duties to conform to SPCC policies.
  • Ensures units are operating within Environmental Compliance with regards to emission limits set forth by Regulatory Agencies. NOx, SOx, CO, HG Opacity, Heat Input, etc.
  • Reviews and improves operational processes and ensures that operating personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures in accordance with industry standards to maximize plant efficiency and availability.
  • Ensures units are Operating in accordance with NERC standards required by Homeland Security and all Operations personnel receive required NERC training for compliance.
  • Reviews and provides input to maintenance and assists with evaluation / troubleshooting of equipment abnormalities.
  • Prepares reports (Outage / De-rating / Incident reports) in a timely manner.
  • Assists internal and external Project Managers with coordinating and overseeing O&M and Capital projects.
  • Assists Plant Maintenance Manager with coordinating daily and unit outage maintenance work activities.
  • Assists Plant Overhaul Manager with coordinating and overseeing unit overhaul work activities.
  • Assumes all Operations responsibilities during the absence of the Plant Director.
  • Fulfill Field Representative role and responsibilities for Operations contracts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Experience in Power Plant Operations.

Experience leading cross-functional teams, people, and projects in a matrixed organization.

Ability to work Microsoft Office skills : PowerPoint, Excel, and Microsoft Project.

Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) at all levels of the organization.

Effectively identify process control deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

Manage all phases of an project following established methodology with a considerable amount of autotomy.

Knowledge of Environmental and Regulatory requirements.

Experience in understanding of Environmental and Regulatory.

    Working Environment

    Work is performed indoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.

    Employee may potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment.

    Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business related events. After hours work may be required.

    Physical Demands

    Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

    If the use of arm and / or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
