Technician Energy Measurement performs technical duties in Energy Measurements, including service, repair, and calibration of electric metering equipment, gas metering equipment, field test equipment, shop test consoles, distribution equipment, and PPE test equipment.Extensive documentation of ERCOT metering locations. Calibrations & repairs are documented and tracible back the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) laboratory. Vendor management from contract negotiation to accounts payable. Network facilitation of OEM software used for asset tracking, meter performance, and billing data.
- Ability to perform all the associated Tasks and Responsibilities from position Energy Measurement Technician 1, and additional tasks stated here.
- Installs, programs, certifies, and maintains the metering for all sites exceeding 5,000 kW, which have reoccurring monthly bills over $500,000 . This includes metering for municipals, large data centers, SLP rate customers, power plants, substations, and large solar/distributed generation, windfarms, battery storage, and military installation sites.
- Certifies, maintains, repairs, and performs diagnostics on all advanced digital & analog transducers that feeds critical data to System Operations, ESMO, and Power Plant Control Rooms. Ensures meter communication connections via Ethernet, wireless, etc.
- Maintains and ensures traceability of all Watthour Standards and Meter Shop Test Consoles to the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST).
- Perform ION metering acceptance testing, thatincludes verifying PT/CT ratio, circuit wiring, phasing, communications, & metering device programming.
- Provides technical metering and/or measurements support as needed to multiple areas within CPS Energy, such as Power Plant, Electric Meter & Service, Customer Success, Distribution, Power Quality, System Operations, SCADA Engineering, PPE Lab, Gas Operations and Construction, Standards and Specification, Energy Research & Technology, Meter Engineering Construction, and System Protection Engineering.
- Supports multiple business units by performing maintenance, repair, training & calibration on a large variety of hand-held instruments that are used to detect or measure voltage, amperes, gas leaks, buried pipe/cable, faulted cables, etc.
- Familiarity and comfort in the theory algebra and trigonometry.
- Expertise in calibration and repairs to a variety of electric and gas instrumentation equipment.
- Familiarity in the theory and principles of power plant, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Familiarity in the theory, measurement, metering, and detection of gas.
- Advanced metering skills at the large industrial, power plant, substation level.
- Ability to work utilizing safe repeatable procedures routinely, without short cutting methods.
