The Trainee Mechanic is responsible for actively performing tire services and operations to manually remove, repair, and replace tires using various hand and pneumatic tools in the shop and on the road. The individual will be required to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on Fleet vehicles and equipment. Person selected must be able to working alternative work schedules as necessary and willing to be assigned to any of the Fleet Operations repair facilities.
- Assisting with and servicing of CPS Energy fleet vehicles and equipment at a CPS Energy Fleet Operations repair facility as well as fieldrepairs
- Working alternative work schedules as necessary
- Willing to be assigned to any of the Fleet Operations repair facilities
- Operating a wrecker/tow truck to provide road/off road assistance and or equipment transfers
- Repairing flat tires
- Cleaning and maintaining the Fleet Operations work area
- Assist mechanical craft personnel with lifting and positioning of part repairs/replacements
- Maintain environment compliance within and around the garage facilities
- Must be able to take work direction from trainer, supervisor and/or other fleet personnel
- Enroll, attend and pass all courses required with the line of progression program within the time frame
- Must be able to work with supervisor and trainer to acquire all On-Job-Training hours needed and must be able to track own hours
- Ensure that all certifications and licenses are current
- Follow all Corporate and Departmental Safety policies and procedures
- May be required to work weekends and/or holidays
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified
- State Vehicle Inspectors License (DOT)
- Certified by an established Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) training program
- Certified in a Diesel & Industrial Technology Training Program
- Knowledge in Diesel Fuel Injection Systems, Diesel Engine Training, Computerized Truck Systems Management, Truck steering, suspension, brake and transmission systems
- Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, or vehicle air conditioning systems
- Familiarity and operation of construction equipment (forklifts, backhoes, cranes, tractors, etc.)
- Good knowledge of 12 volt electrical systems, air brake system, truck tire repair, mounts and dismounts
- Experience in vehicle and heavy construction equipment repair and maintenace; or a Technical degree/certification
