Position Responsibilities:
- In this position you will perform field observations and testing of construction materials. Responsibilities generally include the testing of soils, asphalt, cast-in-place concrete, masonry mortar and grout, and/or spray-applied fire resistive materials.
- Tell the story. All of our hard work is for naught if we don’t present it all in an orderly, concise manner - hence the importance of our reports and other deliverables. In this position you will prepare detailed daily reports describing the observations and tests performed for that day.
- In this role, you will have the opportunity to work both independently and in a team with other inspectors and technicians. In fact, the ideal candidate for this position will step up and be a leader of his/her peers.
- This position requires local travel, but overnight stay is not common. Work is sometimes required overnight, during early morning hours, and sometimes on weekends.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Entry level or greater of progressive testing and/or inspection experience
- One or more of the following certifications preferred but not required:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Technician Level I certification
- Nuclear gauge safety and hazardous material training
- International Code Council (ICC) Soils
- National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologies (NICET) CMT Level I or higher (soils and/or concrete)
- NCDOT certifications (conventional density, QMS, and/or ABC/borrow pit sampling)
Pay for the position will be commensurate with years of experience and type of certification(s) held. Southern will provide on-the-job training as needed and pay for most certifications needed to perform your job here.
