Description

Precision Medicine Online, based in New York City, is looking for a full-time biopharma reporter. We are seeking someone who can quickly get up to speed in covering the rapidly evolving field of molecularly informed cancer care and write in-depth, value-added content.

Your primary responsibility will be writing feature articles and daily news briefs on scientific and business news related to the precision oncology market. The topics you cover will include cancer drug trials, development and marketing of precision oncology drugs and diagnostics, and regulatory and reimbursement issues, among others. You will also cover the financials of a handful of companies developing and selling precision oncology drugs.

In the first six months to a year, the reporter will work on getting up to speed on the precision oncology beat and developing key sources. The reporter will be expected to independently pitch stories, consistently produce at four to six multi-source features a month alongside daily news briefs and have a reliable network of sources, including industry players, oncologists, and academic researchers in the field. You will also be required to attend a handful of conferences and / or trade shows each year and potentially participate in either programming or moderating discussions at our in-person or online events.

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years' reporting experience covering the biopharma industry for credible, respected news organizations.
  • Familiarity with personalized medicine, genomics, molecular research tools and diagnostics.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Work under tight and constant deadlines.
  • Must report and write accurate and insightful analysis and publish articles in real-time.
  • Must know how to build and maintain sources.
  • A track record of enterprise journalism.
  • Ability to travel to conferences and / or trade shows.
  • Digital portfolio of recent and relevant published work.

Preferences

  • The preferred candidate will be comfortable writing about the confluence of science, technology, and business.
  • In-depth knowledge of personalized medicine, genomics, molecular research tools and diagnostics is a plus.
  • Familiarity covering the financials of drug companies.
  • Prior experience covering oncology-focused medical conferences, such as the annual meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research, is a plus.
  • This is a full-time position based in our midtown Manhattan office, but we are willing to consider candidates in other states where Crain has business operations. This is a hybrid role and will require the employee to be on-site a few times a week if living within a reasonable commuting distance to a Crain office.

    This role provides a unique opportunity to cover news about cutting-edge medicines and their impact on the healthcare system and patients, travel to medical conferences in the US and abroad, and work with a team of knowledgeable reporters and editors.

    This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

    Pay Transparency Disclosure :

    The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000.

    The final salary offering will take into account a wide range of factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. The salary range provided should not be considered as a salary limit or cap. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.

    Environmental Demands

    Where you work matters. The job posting will provide specific information on where and when your amazing work would be performed.
