What are the responsibilities and job description for the 3.5 Hour Teacher Assistant / Lunch / Building Aide position at Cranston City School District?
Reports To: Principal
Position Hours: Part Time (3.5 hours during the school day, hours may vary for each school)
SUMMARY: To assist the principal/teacher with recess and lunch room supervision and provide break coverage for teachers as assigned. Please note there may be an opportunity to add an additional one hour per week to assist with covering team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under supervision and direction of the building administrator the Teacher Assistant will be asked to:
• Follow principal/teacher direction with regard to the supervision of students during the recess periods.
• Follow principal/teacher direction with regard to the supervision of students during the lunch periods.
• Provide transitional support to students.
• Prepare student materials as directed by classroom teachers during their coverage period.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Follow principal/teacher direction in regard to changes in schedule in order to provide appropriate timely support for classroom teachers.
• Photocopy materials.
• Attend trainings as directed.
• Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
• Valid Teacher Assistant certificate as required by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
• Current CPI training required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, stand outside and inside building, walk or run, work at a desk, computer or workstation for extended periods of time; bend at the waist, kneel or crouch, crawl, twist, stoop or lift; use close/far vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception; and speak, hear and communicate effectively in English. The employee must be able to write, reach with hands and arms and display dexterity of hands and fingers.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to an environment typical of a one, two or three story educational building as well as outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate, but can be noisy at times. The employee will be exposed to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses, weather conditions, heated, air conditioned and ventilated facilities, and some chemical substances.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Teacher Assistant/Bus Aide contract.
