Beginning Teacher Coordinator
Position: Beginning Teacher Coordinator (Licensed)
Reports to: Director of Human Resources
Supervises: Site-Based Beginning Teacher Leads / Beginning Teachers
Terms of Employment: 12 months
Pay: ADMIN II (commensurate with experience)
FLSA Status: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Valid Continuing NC Educators License
- Five years of successful teaching experience
- Proven record of excellence as a classroom teacher (e.g., value added, evaluation ratings),
- Experience as a presenter in staff development programs.
- Must have completed Mentor Training.
- A rating of Accomplished or Distinguished level on most current evaluation on all five standards on the most recent summative evaluation on the North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System (NCEES).
- Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles.
JOB GOAL: The Beginning Teacher Coordinator works under general supervision and is responsible for instructional functions including, but not limited to: The Beginning Teacher Program, professional development for BT’s, Residency Program, oversight of the Mentor Program, being involved in and keeping abreast of the North Carolina Standard Courses of Study instructional initiatives as they apply to new teachers, and other coordinating duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
- Collaborated with beginning teachers in the preparation of their Professional Development Plans (PDP)/ Individual Growth Plans (IGP) and provided input (as applicable) in verifying the BT’s completion of the BT Support Program. Developed, implemented and supervised comprehensive Human Resource Services such as New Teacher Orientation, Substitute teacher Program, Volunteer Orientation, New Hire and On-Boarding Orientation and stayed informed of current legislation regarding licensure of qualified candidates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as the contact person for the district Beginning Teacher Support Plan (BTSP).
- Implements effective coaching rounds, lesson demonstrations, and observations or Beginning Teachers at the school level.
- Plans and collaborates with school system principals and site-based mentors to provide support for beginning teachers at school sites.
- Ensures compliance of the North Carolina Evaluation System (NCEES) in regard to Beginning Teachers.
- Collaborates with school/district administrators and mentors.
- Conducts research and applies best instructional strategies.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for the Board of Education regarding Beginning Teachers.
- Attend recruiting events for the district in an effort to recruit teachers.
- Works closely with the Licensure Specialist in assisting with Licensure requirements for Beginning Teachers.
- Analyzes recruitment, retention and survey data.
- Assists with maintaining the systems and processes of NCEES (North Carolina Educational Evaluation System).
- Plans, develops, and coordinates New Teacher Orientation, training in school system policies and procedures for beginning teacher development as assigned.
- Delivers system-wide orientation, training, mentoring, and support programs for beginning teachers.
- Assists the district Professional Development Committee with developing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning for beginning teachers.
- Assists in the evaluation of the district and school-level professional development for impact on increased teacher effectiveness and improved academic achievement.
- Encourages and supports the development and implementation of innovative, effective instructional programs based on scientifically researched based initiatives to increase achievement for all students.
- Contribute to the development and coordination of beginning teacher initiatives.
- Support beginning teachers during their three-year induction period with orientation and mentorship.
- Coordinate support for new teachers through collaboration with principals and mentors.
- Provide continuous professional development for new teachers
- Lead professional development sessions for mentors and beginning teachers.
- Design and implement the state-required ten-day entry training for late hires.
- Create and send monthly and quarterly newsletters to all beginning teachers.
- Coordinate mentor training for the district.
- Coach new teachers in partnership with school principals.
- Provide non-evaluative feedback to new teachers on instructional delivery and classroom management.
- Support school-based initiatives for new teachers and address their learning needs.
- Complete and maintain all state and district required paperwork

- Remains current in state and federal program guidelines, procedures, rules, and laws
- Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities.
- Develops, updates, and implements the Beginning Teachers Support Handbook required by state policy.
- Update the continuing education units (CEUs) for current employees to assist with teacher retention.
- Carries out other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board,
local and state policy on evaluation of teachers.
