Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Checks for approved Medicare diagnosis on all Medicare patients according to Medicare guidelines. Gets ABN signed by patient when necessary.
- Acts as a receptionist; including, but not limited to, greeting patients, scanning documents, and answering the phone in a manner congruent with our service excellence initiative.
- Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions.
- Organizes assigned work and accurately completes work load statistics.
- Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory department when needed to ensure an orderly work flow.
- Is responsible for the daily cleaning of equipment and maintaining neatness throughout the department.
- Records daily temperatures of all refrigerators in the phlebotomy areas.
- Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload.
- Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures.
- Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure.
- Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
- Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- Responsibly follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Readily accepts changes in assignment. Performs work level of equal skill and responsibility as needed. May also perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility, and may be required to do work of lesser responsibility when the workload of the department so requires.

- Complete annual education requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

- Previous data entry preferred
- Successful completion of CCMH phlebotomy training.
- Equivalent of four years of high school education preferred
- One year of full-time experience preferred
- Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within thirty days of hire.
