The Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner is a member of the health care team who provides independent and collaborative functions under the direct and indirect supervision of a physician. Nurse Practitioners traditionally function in the following four ways. They provide preventive care, episodic care, collaborative care and surgical care.

Duties And Responsibilities
All of the above functions may be performed under general supervision.
The physician or designated physician shall be available by cell phone when not physically available on the premises.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Completion of comprehensive health history and physician examination of clients
- Order and/or perform pertinent diagnostic tests; such as, but not limited to: laboratory tests, X-rays, immunizations, microscopic exams, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests as deemed appropriate.
- Evaluation of client’s medical history, physical findings, and diagnostic/laboratory data
- Identification and evaluation of medical illnesses common to the OB-GYN client population
- Monitoring and management of clients with stable chronic diseases
- Provide education and counseling for clients, families, and community groups on various health conditions
- Prescribe diet therapy, in accordance with the client’s health problems
- Prescribe activity level, in accordance with the client’s health problems
- Initiate referrals to other health care professional
- Initiate referrals to the community for client care
- Initiate hospital admission orders, including history and physical
- Recommend treatment options
- Inform clients of diagnosis
- Manage the care of pre-operative and post-operative clients
- Manage the care of pre-procedure and post-procedure clients
- Function as a member of a multidisciplinary health team
- Act as a preceptor for student nurse practitioners
