What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialist position at Crawfordsville Community Schools?
Specialist provides continuous support to the overall educational environment focusing on supporting students and staff to provide education, training, and supportive interventions to promote educational success of students with disabilities.
Requirements:
- Organize and provide instructional methodology and behavioral support and training to teachers in the diverse evidence-based strategies for support of students with disabilities
- Assist school staff in conducting functional behavior assessments (including collecting data) as well as develop appropriate behavior support plans, and individualized program (IEP) goals.
- Serve on councils/committees as assigned such as the IRCA Autism Roundtable or similar
- Participate in case conferences as needed
- Collaborate with family members and professionals when appropriate
- Help connect families to relevant community resources
- Be available when crisis situations occur; trained in crisis prevention and intervention including restraint techniques
- Serve as a resource for staff and administrators regarding policy & procedures, rules & regulations and special education issues
- Serve as a member of multi-disciplinary team in evaluation of students for special education services including pre-referral activities, as needed
- Provide consultant services and technical assistance to school staff regarding special education needs
- Organize and conduct professional development training for teachers as needed on individual, group or school needs
- Participate in training in order to keep abreast of current trends, issues, rules & regulations, research, and other information regarding special education
- Serve as Teacher of Record only when necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Certification Requirements:
- Current Indiana Teacher’s License in Special Education covering a minimum of Mild Intervention
