What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grinder Operator position at Crescent Manufacturing Company?
PURPOSE:
To operate a grinder with the knowledge needed to consistently produce a quality product.
Grinding Afternoons Position(s) 3p to 11p
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Read and understand engineering prints.
2. Accurately use micrometers, dial calipers, microscopes, gauges, comparator, and other equipment needed to maintain product quality.
3. Must be physically able to do the job. Occasional heavy lifting is required. (Assistance is available from co-workers if necessary.)
4. Thread coils into grinder and/or breaker and weld.
5. Re-roll coils, as needed.
6. Identify nonconforming product and, when possible, correct the problem. Notify Department Manager if the problem cannot be corrected.
7. Adjust grind wheels, hones and strops as needed to maintain a quality product.
8. Recognize breaker problems and make minor adjustments or corrections.
9. Weigh and place scrap in designated area at the end of the shift.
10. Keep the area around the machine clean. Minimize oil spillage and use oil-dry as needed. Empty wastebasket daily.
11. Inform Department Manager of the need for machine maintenance, supplies, materials or anything else that could affect the smooth flow of production.
12. Effectively communicate the problems experienced and status of the production processes to the Department Managers and coworkers via the computer, verbally and any other tools utilized.
13. Remove mud from the hone pipe and the grinding wheel area.
14. Remove mud from the top tub and the bottom of the tank daily.
15. Clean filters, as needed.
16. Check belt (or chain) tension at the beginning of the shift. Notify Department Manager if the belt (or chain) needs to be replaced or adjusted.
17. Do other work as assigned by the Department Manager.
18. Make sure the proper amount of oil is placed in the grinder. Maintain strops by adding compound, solvent tank and any and all required fluids in the Grinding Department.
19. Must be able to properly start up and shut down grinders.
20. At the end of the shift all unused documents must be placed in the scrap bin to be shredded so someone does not use the wrong document.
21. Follow Company Policies and Shop Rules.
22. Complete documented quality checks.
23. Complete required paperwork, as well as filling out data sheet properly.
24. Must be committed to Crescent’s Mission/Vision Statement and Quality Policy.
25. Must have good communication skills, written and verbal.
26. Must present a professional attitude.
