The Estimator – Mechanical/HVAC position plays a crucial role in AC Corporation’s design build and plan/spec estimating process. The ideal candidate will understand Mechanical construction means and methods. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners involved in project development and bid proposal. This individual would ideally have prior experience in Mechanical estimating functions within heavy industrial construction, biomed/pharma, semiconductor plants, universities, and federal/state construction.

The Estimator – Mechanical/HVAC position plays a crucial role in AC Corporation’s design build and plan/spec estimating process. The ideal candidate will understand Mechanical construction means and methods. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners involved in project development and bid proposal. This individual would ideally have prior experience in Mechanical estimating functions within heavy industrial construction, biomed/pharma, semiconductor plants, universities, and federal/state construction.
Job Duties
- Estimating, preparing, and submitting bids in a professional and timely manner
- Review RFP documents and assist in generating material take-offs and labor estimates.
- Review RFP documents, plans, and specifications to generate RFI questions and accurate complete/submit bid paperwork as required.
- Identify and communicate to PM team long-lead time material and/or subcontractors to ensure timely ordering
- Attend Pre-bid/Post-Mortem meetings when required
- Identify risks and areas to clarify/negotiate paying close attention to state and federal document compliance
- Identify cross-sell opportunities and drive engagement process to maximize customer and company value
- Prepare and submit final proposals and bid sheets to Sales in a professional and timely manner
- Help develop and refine policies and procedures related to the bid process
- Manage schedule to ensure timely bid creation
- Work with other leadership teams when contracts are awarded to develop a complete project package, including all project documentation, bid budget, schedule, subcontracts, etc...
- Facilitate project hand-off for a smooth transition to Sales, and PM Operations
- Prepare capital cost estimates
- Coordinate with other departments, ensuring understanding of project objectives and efficient utilization of resources
- Remain current with technology and industry evolution, assuring that estimates anticipate the correct market and labor rate conditions
- Crosstrain on other disciplines to provide team coverage.
- 2 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Estimating and scheduling
- Must have experience in government contracts (federal and state)
- Knowledge of MEP heavy industrial, biomed/pharma, university, and federal/state construction preferred
- Ability to read project plans and specifications
- Understanding of contract language and requirements
- Effective time management skills, understands how to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards
- Excel at operating in a fast-paced environment, where multiple deadlines are critical
- Collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (and PE) preferred but not required.
- May be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and telephone, along with other general office equipment.
- Close vision abilities required due to computer work.
- Light to moderate lifting/carrying of 25 lbs. may be required.
- Ability to travel locally to site visits.
- May need to climb a ladder or access building roofs as part of job site visits and equipment evaluations.
- Reaching overhead or below.
- Work environment may include being able to tolerate moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, printers, light traffic)
