Summary/Objective
Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Children and Family Services, the Director of Child Development Center is responsible for the overall success of the Child Development Center including program administration, coordination, and evaluation. Responsibilities include conducting staff meetings and supervisions with On-Site Supervisor and working cohesively with the Child and Family Development Director to develop and maintain a high quality and competent workforce while ensuring program operations comply with all applicable licensure and accreditation guidelines. Analyze and coordinate office services such as personnel, budget preparation and control, housekeeping, records control, and special management studies.

- Oversees the operational and administrative activities of Child Development Center are consistent with the mission and values of the Agency and state and local regulations.
- Confers with parents regarding facility activities, policies, and enrollment procedures. Responds promptly and appropriately to parent concerns involving teachers, administrators, families, or external support personnel as needed.
- Confers with teaching staff regarding a child’s behavioral or learning problems, and recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.
- Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations.
- Authorizes purchase of instructional materials and teaching aids such as books, toys and games designed to stimulate learning.
- Reviews and approves menu plans and food purchases.
- Arranges medical attention for any ill and injured children in accordance with parental instructions.
- Networks with area agencies and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Conducts staff meetings a minimum of two times a month and confers with Classroom Educators to develop programs to maximize children’s potential.
- Attends all Agency meetings, including supervision meetings with Vice President of Children and Family Services.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of on-going program evaluation strategies to ensure program quality standards and licensing requirements are being met.
- Verifies the accuracy and timeliness of all program and client records, encompassing, but not limited to, physicals, emergency contacts, immunization records, etc. This responsibility extends to quality assurance for PQI and state audits, as well as specific data collection.
- Develop and monitor adherence to training plans for Child Development Center staff. Review and revise yearly.
- Provides input for the development of the budget for the Child Development Center.
- Participates in and completes all program and Agency required training.
- Ensures On Site Supervisors are providing new employee orientation for Child Development Center staff. Ensures staff follow all program related policies and procedures.
- Carries out all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Agency’s policies and applicable laws including payroll, scheduling, hiring and disciplinary needs for Child Development Center.
- Consults with Human Resources to ensure Agency policies are being followed and to receive guidance and/or assistance administering Agency policies, interviewing, recruiting and disciplinary procedures and other performance management issues.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate and retain staff.
- Provides program development research; identify viable possibilities; collaborate to secure funding and other resources necessary to ensure growth opportunities.
- In conjunction with HR, ensures the facility and grounds are maintained and safe for children and families.
- In conjunction with HR, monitors safety issues on a regular basis and takes appropriate action when necessary.
- Provides support to On-Site Supervisor. Is available to work shifts as needed to ensure appropriate staff/child ratio.
- Provides a minimum of one hour a week supervision for On-Site Supervisors and Children and Family Development Coordinator and a minimum two staff meetings monthly for Child Development Center staff to ensure all program requirements are being fulfilled, as well as provide coaching and mentoring.
- Available to be contacted for emergencies outside of normal working hours and collaborates to brainstorm and resolve specialized issues.
- Maintains high standards of confidentiality of all employee and resident records and information.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for the positions of On-Site Supervisors and has indirect supervisory responsibilities of all other staff positions at the Child Development Center. The Vice President of Children and Family Services is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Child Development Center. This position acts as the next in line in decision-making authority at the Child Development Center and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Agency’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsible for payroll, scheduling, interviewing, hiring and performance management of the employees within the department. Plans, assigns, directs work, appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, and addresses and resolves concerns/complaints.
Work Environment
The role routinely comes into contact with children who may have a variety of illnesses and varying degrees of hygiene. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or sit for extended periods; walk, run, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift or move items up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and general hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A Criminal Background Check, Abuse check, Motor Vehicle check, Fingerprints, as well as a pre-employment physical are required.
Preferred Experience
Management experience in the field.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
A valid driver’s license and a driving record sufficient to qualify for agency automobile coverage, which includes a minimum of two years driving experience with a permanent driver’s license.
