POSITION SUMMARY:
The Crisis Nursery Child Care Specialist provides care to children birth to six years old who have been admitted to the Crisis Nursery. They use creative, developmentally appropriate activities to keep children engaged and are responsible for the safety and care of the children. Child Care Specialists are required to complete client related paperwork and have professional, confidential interactions with parents/caregivers and children.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides for daily care of infants and children in the Crisis Nursery, including but not limited to feeding, diapering, bathing, and all other physical needs of the children. Must be able to push/pull/lift/carry 30 lbs.
- Plans and assists in the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities
- Provides positive emotional support and comfort to CN children
- Communicates with parents to provide support and reassurance regarding the care and safety of their children while they are, will be or have been in the Crisis Nursery
- Maintains and safeguards the confidentiality of client records and all knowledge and information related to use of Crisis Nursery services by children and families
- Assists in decorating the nursery, hallway and bulletin boards
- Keeps the nursery rooms, kitchen, storage, and work areas clean, neat and organized
- Supervises and maintains an accurate count of the nursery children at all times
- Schedules clients according to program ratio and staff availability when shift supervisor is not available
- Understands and implements agency and program structure, policies, rules and procedures
- Prepares for shift by communicating with supervisor and co-worker(s) and reviewing client files
- Notifies the shift supervisor immediately in an emergency situation
- Prepares, serves and cleans away meals and snacks
- Documents daily observations and information about each individual child’s activities, meals served, and prescription medications administered
- Attends all required in-service trainings and professional workshops, including successful completion of 15 in-service hours of professional development training annually
- Collects and submits program data related to the Crisis Nursery Services as requested
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A High School Diploma or GED Certificate required
- Some early childhood college coursework preferred
- Must be able to work rotating holidays and weekends
- One year of experience in implementing child development activities and/or in working directly with children from culturally diverse backgrounds preferred
- Must be at least 21 years of age
