What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at Crooked Creek Animal Hospital?
Crooked Creek Animal Hospital is seeking a full time Veterinary Technician to join our team. We are a full-service animal hospital offering medical, surgical, emergency, and boarding animal services. We are looking for someone who can work in a fast-paced environment, able to multitask many job duties, and can maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor in high stress situations. The primary duty of the Veterinary Technician is to work with veterinarians during examinations, treatment, and surgical procedures, and provide hands-on care for animal patients that includes recording medical histories, observing and documenting conditions and behavior, collecting tissue and other laboratory samples for analysis, and administering medications.
Candidate must have knowledge and experience with but not limited to:
- Nursing care for small and large animals.
- Anatomy and physiology of small and large animals.
- Veterinary pathology, biochemistry, anesthesia, and surgical nursing.
- Performance of in-house laboratory tests, completion of forms for out-house laboratory tests, and filing of laboratory reports.
- Preparing and administering small and large animal pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and treatments.
- Conducting diagnostics.
- Physical examination of small and large animals and checking vitals including TPR and weight.
- Trim toenails, deworm, cytology, blood samples, skin scrape, anal gland expression.
- Familiar with various flea/tick and heartworm preventions.
- Small and large animal medical charting.
- Prepping patients for surgery and assisting with surgeries.
- Operation of anesthesia machine, X-ray machine, and other applicable equipment
- Use, care, cleaning, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Sterilization techniques for various instruments and equipment.
· Maintain proper documentation in the electronic medical record.
· Relay appropriate information to/from clients to doctors and/or management.
· Assist in cleaning the hospital including but not limited to: cleaning/sanitizing floors, exam rooms, surgery room, x-ray room, and hospital kennels.
· Computer skills: Able to use Avimark, Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search, and other skills needed to effectively use the practice management software program.
Qualifications:
· Certified Veterinary Technician degree.
· Veterinary hospital experience.
· AviMark software program experience.
· Able to safely lift 50 pounds.
