Description
The Collections Paralegal’s primary purpose is to provide litigation support for the Department’s attorneys.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist attorney with pre-litigation legal collections, including drafting collection letters, dispute investigation, and responding to consumer complaints
- Prepare and file legal documents with the Courts (such as complaints, responsive pleadings, motions, etc.)
- Manage service of process function
- Manage the department’s outside legal placements
- Provide support for post-judgment asset search and levy, securing writs and levies, judgment renewals, calculating costs and interest, and payments
- Assist with maintaining the Legal Department’s Litigation calendar
- Answer the Legal Department phone and process legal mail
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees
- Ability to meet department attendance requirements
- Ability to work effectively under departmental pressure/stress situations
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Basic knowledge of and familiarity with relevant laws and regulations applicable to the Company and legal department functions
- Performs other similar or associated duties as necessary to accomplish job objectives in an effective manner as assigned by Management or as responsibilities necessitate
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB
- Administrative Assistant education or training
- Legal office experience
- Paralegal certificate preferred
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be very detail oriented and organized
- Need proficient English and grammar, typing and computer skills, ability to perform basic math
- Proficient in MS Office programs
- Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the company's Confidentiality Agreement
- Work well independently and as part of a team
- Convey professionalism in all day-to-day activities
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB
- Paralegal certificate preferred
- Valid driver license (for occasional court runs)
