General Description

Preschool Aide is responsible for understanding and complying with all Title 22 Requirements, working under the directions of the teaching staff, supporting the teacher in the observation and supervision of each child assigned to their care at all times during scheduled work hours. 


o Overview: The Assistant shall be a Born-again, Evangelical Christian who feels called by God to teach in a Christian School. At all times assistants will model Christ-like character by engaging in behavior and conversations that are appropriate for children, parents, and co-workers. 


o Must have completed (or be currently enrolled and in process to complete) the 4 core Early Childhood Studies courses at an accredited college or university as required by Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing and submit appropriate transcripts


o Enrollment in at least one ECS Core Early Childhood Studies Course and maintain continuous enrollment until all 4 core courses and one additional course in infant care have been completed with passing grades of C or better at an accredited college or university as required by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing. 


o Applicants must provide proof of enrollment each semester, followed by a transcript verifying completion of course with a passing grade, until requirement is met. Enrollment must be continuous from one semester to the next until the requirement is met.


Essential Job Functions:

1. Understand and comply with all Title 22 requirements.

2. Support the philosophy of the school and the Director/Administration

3. Provide visual observation and supervision of each child assigned to your care at all times during scheduled work hours. 

4. Interact and engage with children on their level.

5. Assist children with personal hygiene.

6. Assist children with snacks and lunch.

7. Provide needed first-aid or medical care. Report any accidents/incidents immediately and complete appropriate paperwork as required.

8. Assist Teacher with updating Parent Information Bulletin Board weekly, providing for parents updated schedules, menus, and activities. 

9. Help each student provide a labeled cubby and cot and verify receipt of extra clothes provided by parents and labeled with child’s name. Ensure clothes are replaced by parents when used.

10. Following teacher’s directions and guidelines assist with curriculum/activities, playground supervision, daily prep, daily classroom cleaning, equipment, and toy sanitization, & organizational needs.

11. Follow Administrator and Teacher’s direction in carrying out discipline and/or behavior management plans.

12. Attend scheduled training and/or in-service meetings as scheduled

13. Be actively involved in supporting school events and family fellowship activities

14. Participate in school events (Open House, Spring Program, etc.)

15. Be pro-active in seeking solutions to problems following proper channels with Teacher, Team Leader, Administration, Preschool Director, and/or Assistant Director

16. Continually seek professional growth in the area of child development through course work, seminars, in-service training, and workshops. Provide updated transcripts and/or attendance certificates to Director for placement in employee personnel files.


Specific to Infant Program:

17. Have a competent understanding of the use technology specific to use of the “Brightwheel Child Care” APP and follow the direction of the lead teacher for completing the required and consistent daily/hourly record keeping (feeding, diapering, napping, etc.), as well as appropriate communication with parents/guardians of children in your care

18. Use cellphones in the classroom for the sole purpose of documenting required tasks only! Cell phones may never be used in the classroom or on the playground for personal calls, text messages or email.

19. Have an understanding of the Developmental Milestones related to children ages birth through 5-yrs, with specific understanding of ages 6 mo-30 mo. Apply this knowledge to curriculum planning as well as assessment processes

20. Maintain required processes for the diapering, feeding and personal hygiene of each child in your care. Maintain required record keeping of all processes.

21. Closely adhere to proper food handling and preparation processes and routines.

22. Follow the daily requirements for cleaning and sanitizing classroom equipment and supplies and any laundry needs required in your classroom.

23. Maintain a “can-do” attitude and flexibility with changes in schedules, activities and procedures and follow the direction of the Program Lead Teacher and the Classroom Teacher.

Interacting with Students

Assistants must be able to positively interact with all students and share the love of Christ. This includes difficult students, students who work below grade-level and students whose personalities may be difficult. Assistants must put aside their own feelings to treat all students with respect, provide them all with equal learning opportunities and make them feel comfortable in the learning environment. 


Supervision:

Assistants report directly to the Preschool Assistant Director and work daily under the supervision of the Program Lead Teacher and as well as teacher(s) in the classroom and on the playground. This position is required to supervise all children in attendance at all times.


Education and Experience

Must meet requirements of Title 22: section 101216.1

Preschool aides are required to have completed or be currently enrolled in any of the core Early Childhood Studies Units.  Enrollment in at least one ECS Core Early Childhood Studies Course and maintain continuous enrollment until all 4 core courses and one additional course in infant care have been completed with passing grades of C or better at an accredited college or university as required by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing.  Though prior experience working in a preschool classroom is helpful, it is not required for hire.  Aides are expected to continue seeking education in the field of Early Childhood Education through college courses, seminars, and in-service training.  


Working Conditions

· Able to work outside in inclement weather (50 °or less, 90° or more, rain, wind,) to supervise children at all times.

· Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, crawl, and reach on daily basis.

· Able to write on the whiteboard and prepare bulletin boards

· Able to lift and move up to 60 pounds occasionally.

· Able to climb stairs as needed

· Able to quickly summon help when an emergency arises either in the classroom, or on the playground.

· Able to render minimal first aid and CPR to students who may be injured while in the classroom or on the playground

· Able to escort and supervise children and move them from one area to another as a cohesive unit.

· Able to move freely inside the classroom to monitor students


Mental Work Demands

· Regular and on-time attendance.

· Hours may include some evening events and activities 

· Occasional travel to conferences and off campus meetings

· Under the direction of the Program Lead Teacher and the Classroom Teacher, follow procedures for all tasks required to comply with Title 22 requirements for care and supervision of children, including proper food handling procedures, and cleaning/sanitation procedures

· Accept transitions/changes in schedule (due to weather/special activities/programming) with a positive “can-do” attitude.

· Accept and carry out other tasks as assigned
