Job Overview:

The Maintenance Technician will report to the shift Superintendent during and upon completion of each shift. They will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and minor construction tasks across multiple hospital locations. This role involves travel between sites to address various facility needs, ensuring that the hospital environment is safe, functional, and compliant with healthcare standards. The Technician must use technology to manage work orders and provide excellent customer service, working collaboratively with other staff to maintain smooth operations across all facilities.


Key Responsibilities:

General Maintenance:

Perform minor repairs on a wide variety of architectural systems, including (but not limited to) ceilings, floors, doors, windows, office furniture, concrete repairs, steps, and handrails.

Conduct inspections and maintenance to ensure the safety and functionality of hospital equipment and infrastructure.

Installation and removal of wall hung equipment and devices.

Fix doors, windows, hardware, and other fixtures throughout hospital buildings.

Assist in installing and repairing cabinetry, furniture, and other equipment as needed.

Drywall Installation and Repair: Install, repair, and finish drywall across multiple hospital locations, ensuring high-quality and durable results. Work includes hanging, taping, mudding, sanding, and finishing.

Surface Preparation and Finishing: Prepare walls for painting or wallpaper, ensuring surfaces are smooth, level, and free from defects. Apply texture or finishing as required.

Maintenance and Renovation: Perform drywall-related tasks in both maintenance and renovation projects, adhering to the specific needs of healthcare environments.

Multi-Site Coverage:

Travel between hospital locations to complete maintenance tasks and repairs, ensuring consistent quality across all sites.

Prioritize work orders based on urgency and hospital needs, coordinating with facilities managers at each location to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Experience in high-quality fit and finishes are preferred.

Experience or qualifications in Quality Control and/or Assurance is required.

Technology and Work Order Management:

Utilize facility management software and mobile apps to receive, manage, and complete work orders.

Ensure accurate updates in the system, including documenting work completed, materials used, and time spent.

Stay proficient with mobile technology tools to manage multiple tasks and update progress in real time.

Adherence to Hospital Standards:

Ensure all maintenance work adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection control measures, and cleanliness standards.

Coordinate with hospital staff to minimize disruptions during repairs, especially in sensitive areas such as patient rooms and operating rooms.

Clean and sanitize work areas after completing tasks to ensure the hospital remains compliant with health regulations.

Safety and Code Compliance:

Follow OSHA guidelines and hospital-specific safety procedures to ensure a safe work environment.

Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safety protocols when handling tools and materials.

Ensure that all work complies with local and national building codes, fire safety regulations, and hospital standards.

Teamwork & Collaboration:

Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with hospital staff, maintenance crews, and other trades (e.g., electricians, plumbers, carpenters and locksmiths).

Assist fellow team members with complex projects or emergency repairs to ensure tasks are completed on time.

Share knowledge and expertise to promote continuous improvement and efficient problem-solving within the facilities team.

Participate in team meetings and project planning sessions to collaborate on maintenance and repair strategies.

Customer Service:

Provide excellent customer service, interacting professionally and courteously with hospital staff, patients, and visitors.

Communicate clearly with hospital staff regarding the status of repairs, maintenance needs, and any potential disruptions.

Address any concerns or requests from hospital departments, ensuring a timely and effective resolution.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude, fostering strong relationships between the facilities team and hospital staff.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in general maintenance, handyman work, or facility management, preferably in healthcare or institutional settings.

Skills:

Proficiency in a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks, including interior and exterior finishes, office furniture systems, ceiling and flooring system, and wall/partition systems.

Understanding and troubleshooting various types of door systems, capable of making repairs and adjustments as needed.

Experience with mechanically operated and automatic doors. Familiar with fire door safety requirements, joint commission. 

Familiar and capable of installing and repair all surface mounted wall protection devices, such as crash rails.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and work orders.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple work orders in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate effectively with others.

Commercial mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills and experience a plus.

Certifications:

OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.

Infection control certification (such as ICRA) is a plus.

ASHE certifications preferred.

Technology Proficiency:

Familiarity with facility management software, mobile work order systems, and other related technology.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift heavy materials, work with power tools, and perform tasks that require physical endurance.

 

Work Environment:

The Facility Maintenance Technician will work in various hospital environments, including patient rooms, operating rooms, and administrative areas. This role requires flexibility in traveling between hospital locations, working closely with other trades, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace.
