ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Drafts correspondence, pleadings, subpoenas, motions, discovery requests and responses, proposed orders, and documents required to initiate legal proceedings and appeals for review, approval, and use by Attorneys.
Investigates facts by reviewing documents and searching public records and electronic information sources; prepares chronologies, summaries, memoranda, charts, and affidavits concerning facts and data for review, approval, and use by Attorneys.
Coordinates conventional and electronic filing of pleadings, motions, briefs, proposed orders and other submissions with court clerk; obtains dates for hearings and assists in docketing pleading, discovery, pretrial, briefing, and appeal deadlines.
Arranges and coordinates service of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to legal proceedings.
Gathers and organizes relevant documents and potential exhibits for review and use by Attorneys in discovery, hearings, trials, and appeals; identifies privileged and confidential information in client documents for review by Attorneys.
Hires and supervises outside copying services, investigators, process servers, court reporting services, and temporary clerical help as needed.
Summarizes testimony from depositions, hearings, and trials, and searches electronic litigation databases as directed by Attorneys.
Assists in scheduling and preparing witnesses for testimony at depositions, hearings, and trials.
Reviews local court rules and coordinates with court personnel in preparation for hearings and trials; organizes and supervises delivery and pick-up of exhibits, supplies, and presentation equipment as needed for hearings and trials.
Assists Attorneys with exhibits, presentations, and witness scheduling during hearings and trials; conducts post-trial interviews of jurors.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education and / or Experience : Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or Associate's degree and at least two year's prior experience; or High School Diploma or its equivalent and at least five year's prior experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Prefer certification as a Paralegal.
