What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counseling Graduate Intern position at Crown College?
DEFINITION:
To provide individual and group counseling to undergraduate students at Crown with a stipend available. This role will create mental health tips and awareness, complete counseling center administrative work, and all necessary clinical documentation. All tasks are aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of undergraduate students.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Counseling and Career
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
- Works out of an office in the Crown Counseling center. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computer and required programs, printer, fax machine, calculator, copy machines, and other equipment as the position requires.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
General Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counseling and group counseling, if necessary, to students at Crown College.
- Maintain all updated necessary clinical documentation including a comprehensive intake, progress notes, treatment plans, and case notes of communication with students under HIPAA regulations.
- Work with the Director of Counseling and Career and the Dean of students to assist in crisis situations that may occur and provide assessment of students in crisis.
- Work in conjunction with the Student Development staff to help Crown College students mature as whole people and as followers of Christ.
- Conduct administrative responsibilities and correspondence as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Career as necessary to the function of the office. Tasks include record keeping, documentation, reports, correspondence, and professional contacts necessary to the function of the office.
- Establish a proactive association with the faculty and staff of Crown College.
- In collaboration with the Director of Counseling and Career, provide off-campus referrals for counseling if it is in the best interest of the student.
- Maintain professional standards of confidentiality and ethics in conjunction with established guidelines of appropriate professional associations and HIPAA.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Counseling and Career.
Supervisee Responsibilities:
- Submit all required paperwork prior to deadlines.
- Purchase professional liability insurance (submit proof of liability insurance via email to Director of Counseling prior to first day of internship).
- Maintain professional and ethical behavior throughout internship (i.e. dress professionally, maintain healthy boundaries with clients, practice integrity, protect client confidentiality, do not work on homework or personal projects while on internship, etc.)
- Communicate concerns, issues, or questions with the Director of Counseling promptly.
- Discuss personal and professional goals of internship with supervisor.
- Track internship hours accurately, complete and submit course assignments on time, and provide supervisor with ample time to complete evaluations and sign hours logs to ensure they are submitted on time.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Candidates should exhibit leadership, ability, helping skills, conflict resolution and organizational ability.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Able to lift and carry loads of at least 25 pounds if needed
- Able to sit and counsel/mentor students for at least 50 minutes per session; overall, sitting for long periods of time
- To have hand and arm (or equivalent) dexterity adequate to allow for extensive use of a keyboard for data entry.
- To talk and hear (or equivalent) with enough proficiency to allow for communicating with co-workers and students by phone or in person.
- Able to maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enrolled in a master's degree program in counseling.
- Seeking to fulfill their internship requirement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some previous counseling experience
