What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at Crown College?
DEFINITION: This role provides individual and group therapy, crisis management and assessment, and the development of programs aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of undergraduate students. The counselor will develop their own caseload of 10 students per week.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Counseling and Career
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION: Works from an office at Crown College. Equipment used includes but is not limited to, personal computer and required programs, printer, fax machine, calculator, copy machines, and other equipment as the position requires.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Direct Client Care
- Provide professional individual counseling to students and facilitate group therapy sessions as needed.
- Maintain updated and comprehensive intake, progress notes, treatment plans, and case notes of communication with students under HIPAA regulations.
- Consult with the Dean of Students Office and Director of Counseling in emergency situations, provide assessment of students in crisis, and assist in the development and coordination of plans for students with psychological issues.
- Refer students externally when needed for adequate support for the coordination of a continuum of care for students.
- Maintain professional standards of confidentiality and ethics in conjunction with established guidelines of appropriate professional associations.
Administration & Operation
- Conduct record keeping, documentation, reports, correspondence, and professional contacts necessary to the function of the office.
- Provide support, training, and resources for faculty, staff, and student leaders on student mental health and behavior.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with psychological assessment tools: PHQ-9 , GAD-7, SCL90-R (Symptom Checklist-90-Revised) and others.
- Demonstrated experience in providing short-term individual and/or group counseling.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 or more years of Counseling
