Job Accountabilities
More specifically, the I/E Customs Manager will be responsible for the following:
- Direct and supervise the import and export logistics compliance of finished goods, raw materials and work in progress (WIP) in accordance with various governmental agencies and their regulations
• Responsibility for international logistics related to import/export movements including ocean carriers, drayage providers and over-the-road trucking. This will require the I/E Manager to be remotely on-call/available on off-hours and weekends in the case that a customs issue prohibits the flow of goods.
• Assume ownership of the Crown import/export compliance program and maintain ownership for updated/maintaining our Customs Compliance Manual.
- Assume accountability for all inquiries from Homeland Security and US Customs and Border Protection, and other governmental regulatory agencies assigned the task of managing compliance risks.
- Partner with Crown Legal and outside legal counsel for all Regulatory Compliance issues.
- Assume an expert role in monitoring existing and emerging regulations relating to the import / export of items associated with Crown’s operation. Expectation is that he/she will provide expert advice and counsel to Crown’s Business Units.
- Ensure that Crown meets core compliance requirements of proper valuation, tariff classification, country of origin, record keeping under the concept of Informed Compliance
- Develop and deliver training as required for the Logistics team and the organization as a whole.
- Serve as a Chair of the Crown Import Export Management Compliance (IEMC) Committee and assume the expert role in the I/E Area.
- Accountability for Crown’s customs brokers including ownership of the relationship, pricing, contracting and SOP’s. Establish KPI’s to drive performance.
- Ability to travel as required, approximately 10-15%
- Seek ways to maximize savings for the company.
Job Requirements
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 7 years of international trade experience focusing on trans-border and deep water movements. Previous experience with an Importer in a manufacturing environment is desirable. You must be able to work across the organization to mobilize employees at all levels of the organization. Talking with data and an eye on continuous improvement is essential for success.
The individual’s background will show a steady progression to positions of increasing authority.
In addition to the above, the successful candidate should have the following successful experience:
• Knowledge of U.S. and international transportation industries and networks is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of C-TPAT, Customs Valuation Issues, Duty Preference Programs, Import / Export Compliance and basic legal acumen is highly preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of major international trade laws, policy and requirements is highly preferred.
- Complete understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Regulations (19 CFR) required
- Extensive experience in reading and interpreting other Government Regulations directly related to international trade compliance is also highly preferred.
- Experience with classification of trade goods and commodities under the Harmonized Schedule Tariff with industry specific technical knowledge is highly preferred.
- United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) proficient; as well as, having a solid understanding of other emerging international free trade acts and regulatory provisions
- Industry certifications are highly preferred including Customs Broker License
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required including the ability to communicate across all management and organizational levels. Strong presentation development and delivery skills preferred.
- This candidate will be able to manage multiple priorities successfully and work independently while demonstrating initiative.
- This candidate must be a strong leader and team player able to interact and lead at various levels within the organization.
- High ethical standards demonstrated by the individual’s approach to business and the ability to set that tone for the entire organization.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, specifically with Excel is required.
- Language skills, especially in Spanish, is a plus
