We are currently seeking a certified or licensed Substance Abuse Counselor to provide in-person, virtual, and community-based services, depending on client needs at our Columbia, Maryland location and throughout the state of Maryland. Applicants must be certified or licensed in the state of Maryland.
Position Purpose:
The Substance Abuse Counselor will be responsible for providing direct care to individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorders. Key duties include conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating group and individual counseling sessions. The counselor will work closely with the clinical team to provide evidence-based interventions and support services, including relapse prevention, crisis intervention, and referrals for additional community resources. The counselor will also help facilitate outpatient (OP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs.
Who Should Apply:
Applicants must be certified or licensed as a Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of Maryland. Appropriate certifications or licensure include CAC-AD, CSC-AD, LCPC, and LCSW-C with substance use specialty. Experience in providing both individual and group therapy is preferred.

Hours/Schedule:
This is a part-time contract position with the potential to transition to full-time upon request. Counselors have the flexibility to choose their own hours and create a schedule that fits their lifestyle and preferences.
Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations to assess clients' needs and develop personalized treatment plans
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions to address substance abuse issues
- Perform patient assessments to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly
- Offer crisis intervention services to clients in acute distress
- Utilize psychotherapy techniques to help clients understand and manage their addiction
- Coordinate with hospitals, home care providers, and community resources to ensure comprehensive care
- Engage in case management activities to support clients throughout their recovery journey
Qualifications
- Proficiency in conducting group therapy sessions
- Experience in diagnostic evaluation and patient assessment
- Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies
- Ability to provide individual and group counseling tailored to each client's needs
- Knowledge of psychotherapy techniques for treating substance abuse disorders
- Understanding of home and community care services for holistic treatment approaches
