You will work alongside two other Finance Business Partners to engage with senior leaders across the service, balancing how to both advise and challenge them to make informed and robust financial decisions based on the allocated budgets from the Scottish Government.
This is an excellent opportunity to expand your existing management accounting knowledge to learn the role finance has within the Civil Service. This is a hybrid role that will allow home working, with a collaborative team atmosphere in the office at least twice a week subject to business need. The home office will be other the Crown Office Edinburgh or Glasgow. The role will also see you travel, on occasion, between various offices in Scotland to engage with your clients and key stakeholders, allowing for you to network and build strong working relationships that you can maintain throughout your time in post.

This team sits within the wider Finance and Procurement unit, providing support and guidance to ensure the organisation is compliant in all financial matters and that we ensure robust financial management and value for money of budgets allocated by the Scottish Government.
In this role, you will work alongside a variety of stakeholders across the organisation, providing clear and concise financial insights and advice. You will provide challenge and influence to support robust decision making and ensure sound financial management is maintained across the organisation. You will work closely with the two other Finance Business Partners in the team, as you each provide support to an allocated area of the organisation.
You will report to the Senior Finance Business Partner and will also support the Head of Management Accounting and Planning.

This role will be suited to candidates who are able to demonstrate strong management accounting experience.
Communication skills will be key, the ability to tailor your communication style to your audience, interpret complex financial information and making it accessible to all key stakeholders. You should be familiar with accounting and finance software and be able to make improvement recommendations to processes. You should be confident taking the lead with your work, but also be able to collaborate with others, building strong stakeholder networks and maintaining positive relationships.

- Act as a point of contact and provide key financial advice and guidance to the organisation.
- Perform both detailed and strategic financial analysis that will inform business decisions and ensure robust financial management and value for money.
- Analyse financial data and support non-financial colleagues in their understanding.
- Maintain close coordination within the Finance and Procurement team to facilitate engagement with Business Managers across the various functions of the organisation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Managers across various business areas to provide professional financial advice and guidance.
- Support the annual budget setting, management and reporting cycle as well as strategic financial planning.
- Assist with the production of monthly management accounts and finance reports.
- Analyse monthly financial data, conduct performance analysis and challenge forecasts to meet reporting deadlines.
- Identify risks and pressures within forecasts, explain them to business managers and work with them to reconcile in line with budget allocation.
- Aid in the production of COPFS’ Annual Accounts and supporting audit papers.
- Work to maintain our finance system and assist with the reconciliation of payroll and suspense accounts.
