The HR Generalist oversees the daily operations of the human resources department at Crown Orchard. This role involves implementing HR policies, procedures, and programs.

Job Objectives:
· Understand each department’s unique staffing cycles and needs.
· Recruit suitable talent for the company’s open positions.
· Assist in developing and implementing personnel procedures and policies, providing guidance and interpretation for business operations.
· Offer HR advisory services to employees.
· Ensure compliance with state and federal HR regulations and employment laws, updating policies and procedures as necessary.
· Propose new procedures and policies to enhance organizational efficiency and improve employee experience.
· Identify staff training needs and develop programs for professional development, such as leadership training, safety protocols, and technical skills enhancement
· Enhance and implement effective employee performance evaluations, safety programs, and company communications.
· Administer benefits, including Workers’ Compensation, and fulfill ACA, OSHA, and other government reporting requirements
· Align employee needs with company objectives
Deliverables:
· Identify present and future staffing needs for each department. Work with hiring managers to develop and implement recruitment plans.
· Evaluate existing job descriptions and recommend edits for consistency and accuracy. Assist hiring managers in creating clear and effective job descriptions for new positions
· Recruit for open positions through various channels, including internal promotions, job fairs, online job postings, networking events, and partnerships with VEC and other agencies. Screen potential candidates and coordinate with hiring managers throughout the process.
· Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, new hire orientation, and exit interviews, including data entry into HR information systems, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
· Assist with paperwork and procurement of labor through H2A and other programs and facilitate the process for workers needing Social Security cards or driver certifications.
· Assist in creating, communicating, interpreting, and maintaining the employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational chart, and contribute to policy development.
· Provide dedicated HR advisory services to employees regarding absence and health issues, conduct and capability, grievance matters, organizational change, and other employee relations matters.
· Respond to and document HR-related incidents and conflict resolution promptly and effectively. Assist with necessary investigations and disciplinary actions.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including child labor laws, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, and H2A program compliance requirements. Recommend best practices.
· Document and manage Workers’ Compensation claims and OSHA logs, including follow-up investigations, medical treatments, and emergency injury situations after hours.
· Assist in developing and implementing an employee evaluation system and safety programs for each department.
· Actively participate in audits as requested by company management.
· Monitor employee morale and company culture and propose initiatives for enhancement.
· Participate in local networking opportunities related to the position.

Requirements:
· 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in the agriculture industry
· Bilingual in English and Spanish
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
· Strong understanding of state and federal employment regulations, including OSHA and FLSA
· Proven experience in managing personnel and compliance records
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
· Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities, with the capability to effectively communicate policies and business information to employees at all levels
· Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
· Exceptional time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
· Excellent people skills, representing Crown Orchard Co. professionally in interactions with employees, applicants, and the public, both in person and in writing
· A proactive, “can-do” attitude, with the ability to independently resolve issues and take initiative on daily projects
· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within a 30-mile radius
This position is based at our main office in Covesville, VA. It is not a remote position. Local driving to various work sites and retail operations is required as needed.
