Crystal Lake South High School, within Community High School District 155, has an anticipated opening for a ten-month Special Education Office Assistant .  The pay scale begins at $21.49; placement on the salary schedule will be in accordance with the 2023-2028 CHESS Agreement.  Please review the general job description below.

 

REPORTS TO: Special Education Division Leader

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 10 months; 8 hrs/day; 190 Work Days/year

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The special education office assistant is responsible for the day-to-day clerical operations of the special education department, including providing support to special education staff. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrates strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • High degree of interpersonal relations and communication skills
  • Evidence of good organizational skills
  • Evidence of good judgment, trustworthiness, flexibility, and emotional maturity
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and is self-directed

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Responsible for producing correspondence, forms, reports, schedules, and other documents pertaining to the special education department.
    • Create master schedule documentation for home school and out-placed students
    • Create master schedule  documentation for support staff assignments
    • Enter report information into Easy IEP
    • At the beginning of each semester, complete and distribute to classroom teachers, counselors, dean, etc. the IEP summary for each student
    • Assist with all testing accommodations (reviewing files, completing ACT forms, notification of parents, production of appeals, sorting materials, organization of materials for return, ordering necessary equipment for test accommodations, arranging rooms, proctors, and readers for test administration) including PSAE, MAP, Final Examinations, etc.
  • Assist department chair with preparations for IEP meetings, including communications with parents
    • Manage distribution of staffing notices to parents
    • Arrange for subs
    • Arrange meeting times and schedule meeting room(s)
    • Coordinate 8th grade staffing with feeder schools
    • Coordinate attendance of regular education teachers
  • Maintain the building’s special education files
  • Perform clerical services for the Local Education Agency representative (LEA’s)
  • Maintain inventory of special education equipment and supplies, including student equipment
  • Communication of student needs to transportation office, including arranging for student arrival and departure from school
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Department Chair

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, to use his/her hands to type, handle, or feel; to talk; and to hear.  The employee must be physically capable of bending, reaching, and lifting loads up to 35 lbs.  As a result, the employee’s physical presence is required.
