POSITION:
The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the Housekeeping Department and will ensure that housekeeping personnel follow correct procedures to maintain the physical environment and furnishings of the facility in a clean and sanitary condition.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School graduate or equivalent preferred
License: None required
Work Experience: 1 year experience as supervisor of the housekeeping service for a long term care facility or hospital, or 2 years experience as a housekeeper in an institutional setting.
Language Skills:
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language.
Mathematical Skills:
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume.
Communication Skills:
- Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills, and be empathetic.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, responsible parties, staff and outside resources and agencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Direct and supervise all aspects of the housekeeping service for the facility
- Interview and hire Housekeepers under the direction of the Maintenance Director. Provide orientation and training to new employees
- Develop, write and post work and duty schedules for housekeeping staff
- Daily basis inspect the entire premises for necessary cleaning and assign personnel appropriately
- Assist with cleaning in accordance with schedule
- Routinely supervise housekeeping staff to insure correct procedures and schedules are followed
- Provide instruction, supervision, counseling and written evaluations to housekeeping staff
- Conduct in-service training classes for housekeeping staff on techniques for cleaning, disinfection, sanitation, handling of cleaning chemicals and other related subjects
- Contact vendors and arrange for delivery of housekeeping supplies. Control cost within the budget and maintain records of all supplies purchased
- Ensure orderly, secure storage of supplies, chemicals and work area
- Maintain required Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Promptly notify Maintenance Director of any needed repairs to the building or equipment
- Ensure that required personal protective equipment is available to staff members
- Practice and insure compliance of infection control policies and procedures of the department and facility
- Practice and insure compliance of safety procedures of the department and facility
- React appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations
- Participate in Quality Assurance programs
- Be courteous, considerate and cooperative when communicating with all facility personnel, residents and public
- Attend in-service education and staff meetings as required
- Attend and participates in facility committee meetings as required
