What are the responsibilities and job description for the Miscellaneous Steel Fabrication Supervisor position at Crystal Steel Fabricators, Inc.?
Crystal Steel Fabricators, Inc., a leading steel fabricator, is looking for a Miscellaneous Steel Fabrication Supervisor to oversee misc. metals operations in our Memphis area steel fabrication shop. This person will manage a small group of people and inspect welds and fabrication. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Requirements:
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening test
- Five (5) years’ experience in the Steel Industry in miscellaneous steel fabrication
- Have completed Leadership/Management Skills Training, Safety Training, etc. (preferred)
- Possess or can learn computer skills to include MS Excel, Word (Minimum)
- Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to production or productivity problems.
- Able to effectively manage time including work schedules, events, programs, and other activities.
- Possess the ability to communicate information and ideas effectively.
- Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance with the ability to work overtime and weekends
- Possesses strong sense of urgency.
- Can work independently and/or as a cooperative team player
- Willingly takes direction from supervisory personnel
- Adhere to quality procedures and demonstrates strong safety awareness and prevention
Responsibilities:
- Plan, supervise, direct and engage in daily production operations and anticipate production problems, i.e., material shortages, equipment malfunctions, rush orders, etc., so that loss of work hours is minimized and production and quality objectives are achieved.
- Utilize skills, work hours, materials, and workflow to achieve production and quality objectives, exchange timely information with other supervisors on interdepartmental product flow and workforce needs.
- Instruct, train, orient, motivate and otherwise assist employees so that safety, quality, and production objectives are achieved.
- Provide information or otherwise assist others in their efforts to initiate efforts aimed at effecting cost reductions, work simplification or improvements in methods or equipment.
- Responsible for the implementation of all safety policies and procedures, including housekeeping practices, awareness of hazardous conditions; respond to employee injuries, issuing medical authorization forms, investigating accident causes and recommending means to prevent accident reoccurrence.
- Keep employees informed of the company rules and regulations, and production and quality expectations. Issue warnings and other approved disciplinary measures when necessary. Encourage employee communication and endorse an open-door policy.
- Maintain professionalism.
- Recommend overtime and control costs.
- Interpret complex documents including blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by functioning and communicating in an effective manner with co-workers, clients, quality control, and peers.
Other Expectations:
- Support the Crystal Steel Lean Initiative through active engagement and participation in continuous process improvement projects based in Lean Manufacturing Principles.
- Participate in the daily production planning process.
- Accept ownership of work cells, ensuring that work is completed within a timely manner while meeting Company and customers’ expectations.
- Assist in the collection of data, participate in RIE workshops, and contribute to the implementation of solutions, replicate successful improvements, share lessons learned and provide feedback on opportunities for change that will further the continuous improvement process.
