International freight can be a complicated business whether you are brand new or looking to scale, having experts on hand can save invaluable resources from falling through the cracks. Their team has mastered the art of assessing an operational and logistical situation, formulating an effective plan, and seeing it through to the finish line. Our client is certified to handle both imports & exports (OTI, NVOCC, Customs Clearance, CTPAT & RLF Certifications).

Freight Forwarding Business Development Manager

This individual’s focus will be finding qualified business leads, performing sales functions, and growing accounts for our client’s freight forwarding branch. The Freight Forwarding Business Development Manager will be determined and professional, with extensive knowledge of freight forwarding sales and prior experience selling ocean container freight.

Job Type: Full-time; Onsite Position

Responsibilities

  • Identify business opportunities through prospecting, networking, cold calling, email campaigns, and in-person meetings.
  • Develop a personal book of business and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Generate profitable sales in new and existing accounts to meet KPIs and exceed revenue goals.
  • Utilize internal technologies to determine and negotiate competitive rates while still creating a profit.
  • Coordinate with the Operations department to ensure loads are booked and any Customs issues have been resolved.
  • Maintain current knowledge of market trends in the industry as it relates to ocean imports/exports and various lanes/regions.
  • Suggest value-add solutions to new and existing accounts to meet their supply chain needs.
  • Resolve any escalated conflicts that may arise with empathy and professionalism.

Experience

  • Prior ocean import experience is required
  • 3-5 years of freight forwarding sales experience is required
  • Self-motivated, with a desire to achieve and exceed goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills, as well as technological savviness
  • Resilient problem solver with an empathetic and collaborative approach to understanding customer needs
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills

This position offers a competitive base salary commission.
