Responsibilities
- Dispatch multiple over the road and/or local owner-operators based on customer requirements.
- Receive, enter, and dispatch orders promptly within established timelines, considering the last free day, per diem, and demurrage.
- Respond to customer queries in a timely and accurate manner, via phone, email, text, or chat.
- Update TMS with the information required to report on loads, Port pick-up dates, Arrivals, and EQ returns.
- Follow up on all deliveries and pickups to inform customers of all delays in a timely manner.
- Use cell phone, chat, text, office phone, or computer to send drivers, vehicles, or other units to appropriate locations.
- Provide all drivers under dispatch with information about orders, traffic, obstacles, and requirements.
- Monitor Drivers’ Hours of Service per DOT guidelines to ensure drivers are within legal limits of the available HOS per FMCSA guidelines.
- Reconcile daily yard checks to reduce wait times and additional charges to both terminal expense and drivers.
- Ensure customs, Steamship, and agent releases of cargo daily for the following day’s dispatch.
- Assist drivers with features and functionalities of Terminal Management System (TMS) and other company-supplied equipment.
- Ensure adherence to policies for attendance, established procedures, etc.
- Keep management informed on issues and problems that arise with customers and drivers.
- A minimum of 1 year of Intermodal Dispatch experience is required.
- Ability to create and enter orders as needed.
- Understanding of Driver pay and percentage-based freight.
- Ability to calculate fuel surcharges.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be proficient with most mainstream office software such as, G Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Email and calendar scheduling tools (Outlook, Google Calendar).
