This position involves working with tribal land managers, forestry professionals, and other stakeholders to develop and implement prescribed fire plans, manage fuels, and prevent wildfires. The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as forestry or range management, and have at least two years of experience working in wildland fire management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement prescribed fire plans in collaboration with tribal land managers and forestry professionals
- Manage fuels and vegetation on tribal lands to reduce wildfire risk
- Work with stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential fire hazards
- Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to share best practices and stay up-to-date on industry developments
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as forestry or range management
- At least two years of experience working in wildland fire management
- Strong knowledge of wildland fire management principles and practices
- Red card qualifications as a Firing Boss (FIRB) trainee, Single Resource Boss (CRWB, ENGB, HEQB, FELB), and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5)
- Possession of a valid State of Montana driver's license and adherence to BIA/Northwest Regional Office Safe Driver Approval
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
