Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our educational team. The School Nurse will play a vital role in promoting student health and wellness, providing urgent care, and ensuring a safe environment for all students. This position requires a strong background in patient care, medical documentation, and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direction of the Executive Director, or their designee who reviews work for completion, effectiveness and conformance with policy and procedure. Also consults with CTCA Medical Director who provides medical oversight and support.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED May supervise school staff who are medication certified
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Independently provides counseling and health education services to students and staff; serves as member of crisis intervention team; provides assessment of medical problems; determines need for physician or medical care; performs basic evaluative procedures and tests; performs primary first aid; ensured that controlled drugs are properly stored; makes referrals and follows up on student health needs; provides counseling on health related issues; maintains accurate medical records; writes reports; may administer medication; may administer routine tests or exam; maintains all medical supplies in adequate quantities; maintains defibrillator; ensures compliance with all state and federal laws governing school nursing standards; performs related duties as required.
Position is part-time: Approximately 20-25 hrs a week.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of and ability to independently apply nursing principles, techniques and standards; considerable knowledge of specialized patient/individual care applicable to school nursing; considerable knowledge of medications, their actions, interactions, uses and side effects; knowledge of general and mental health conditions and treatment interventions through utilization of assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, health planning, implementation and re-evaluation; considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other professionals, community resources and providers; ability to act as role model to medication certified staff; supervisory ability
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Current State of CT RN license (BSN/MSN preferred) Current CPR/First Aid Certification May be required to possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle operator's license
