As the Plastics Process Engineer Associate, you will coordinate and perform optimization and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and layouts/expansions to continually enhance and automate the areas.
Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role
- Process Improvement: 100% of the Job
- Coordinates and performs optimization of the manufacturing processes as it relates to machinery, molds, and tooling to continually enhance output of the areas while staying within the budget and timelines.
- Writes process instructions for the cell groups, with the Engineering team, ensuring they have been reviewed and validated to meet equipment and tooling standards.
- Provides education/information for employees on new work instructions in a way that is easy to understand and follows the processes.
- Troubleshoots and implements best practice solutions to equipment/tooling obstacles, with Maintenance and Product Managers, that will maximize output while meeting budget and downtime constraints.
- Reviews how the machines operate and the plant layout on a consistent basis, working with the Maintenance and Engineering departments, to optimize the areas.
- Partners with cross-functional teams and other team members to maximize continuous improvement projects and new product development processes that meet cost and delivery times.
- Creates other procedures, processes, and reports to ensure clear and consistent processes and project flow.
Position Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with concentration in plastics or chemical processing preferred. Would consider a combination of coursework and experience.
- Experience: 1-2 years of implementing engineering and manufacturing projects/processes within an injection molding manufacturing environment preferred. Will consider new or recent graduates.
- Functional Skills: Solid planning, prioritizing, and organizational skills. Detail-oriented and thorough. Also requires solid math, analytical, and problem-solving skills to effectively enhance the manufacturing areas.
- Technical Aptitude/PC/Other: Intermediate Microsoft Office experience required. A working knowledge of ERP Systems and familiarity with 5S and Lean Manufacturing is preferred. Knowledge or experience with computer-aided drafting (CAD) would also be a plus.
- Language Skills: Solid business writing and communication skills, with the ability to present to others.
- Leadership/Behaviors: Solid collaboration skills. Ability to listen to ideas and implement the best enhancements. Ability to be positive, conceptualize, and initiate projects effectively. Versatility/flexibility is also key to perform various portions of multiple projects (i.e. like tooling, design, etc. dependent on background).

- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- This role also uses CAD software and related products.
- Ability to sit at desk for 5 hours per day
- Ability to sit and operate a motor vehicle as needed for the role
- Ability to operate keyboard and view computer screen for majority of day 6-7 hours
- Ability to use hands and fingers and to reach for and handle objects to perform tasks frequently
- Ability to write ideas/information in a logical flow for 5 hours per day
- Ability to read and respond on an on-going basis daily due to nature of the work
- Ability to talk and communicate with others via phone, in-person, and computer on-going
- Ability to listen to customers, problem-solve, and respond accordingly throughout the day
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, squat, twist, push, pull, and carry items frequently
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. sporadically
- The employee is primarily exposed to a normal office environment with moderate noise. The employee is occasionally required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment while visiting manufacturing departments.
