CTG is seeking to fill a Database Administrator opening for our client in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Location: Los Alamos, NM
Duration: 3 to 6 months
Under general supervision of the Chief Information Officer or designee, provides technical expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of relational database management systems (SQL and Oracle) that support institutional business applications. Ensures logical data models are mapped effectively and efficiently into physical data models that take advantage of the characteristics of the specific database management system used. Responsible for technically supporting multiple databases that run countywide business applications which are accessed by multiple departments. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews, develops, and designs data models using standard diagramming techniques; creates logical data models and translates into physical database structures that integrate with existing or proposed database structures.
- Monitors relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
- Maintains multiple development, test and production database environments.
- Monitors and maintains database security and software, in cooperation with systems administrators.
- Ensures support is provided to customers in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
- Provides recommendations to applications analysts in the effective use of database languages; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management issues.
- Develops and manages multiple linked databases to include security, data safety and integrity, disaster recovery, and development and implementation of bulk data import/export procedures.
- Responsible for coordinating and managing technology projects of varying complexity, on time and within budget.
- Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance.
- Evaluates and recommends testing of new database related procedures, software, and hardware.
- Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data.
- Creates, procures and maintains various database related documents such as manuals and programmers handbooks.
- Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems; participates in professional development activities.
- Ensures strict confidentiality of all information and records.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Library Information Systems or related field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- Eight to ten years of experience in database management, troubleshooting and customer support experience.
- Must possess current Oracle Database or Microsoft Database certification.
- Must have PowerShell experience.
