Selected applicants will be interviewed to establish a pool of approved Communication Studies instructors for possible part-time teaching assignments in the Languages and Communication Division. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for Communication Studies (see below).
Class assignments may be day or evening classes offered at these locations and in the following modalities:
California Men's Colony in-person
San Luis Obispo Campus in-person or in-person/online hybrid
Class assignments may include any Communication Studies course the college offers but will primarily be the following:
Public Address
Group Communication
Argumentation and Debate

- Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication from an accredited institution;
- Bachelor's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication from an accredited institution AND Master's in drama/ theater arts, mass communication or English from an accredited institution;
- The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.)
- A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
- Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges.
