Title: Computer Technician

Job Goals:
- To provide technical support for computer hardware and software.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or Technical College graduate preferred.
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Experience with Microsoft Desktop and server operating systems.
- Experience with Chromebooks and Google Workspace.
- Proficiency in technical reading, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of applications including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Internet, and networked applications.
- Experience with basic network troubleshooting.
- Experience with hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Experience in hardware configuration and upgrades.
- Experience in software installation and configurations.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
- Supports computer installation, maintenance, and repair at all schools and the central office.
- Completes work orders on priority basis.
- Maintains maintenance and repair records.
- Installs server and client based applications.
- Performs data security and backup procedures.
- Assists network administrators, technology integration facilitators, and school technology coordinators as required.
- Supports technology training activities as required.
- Assists with maintaining schools’ technology inventory and technology department spare parts inventory.
- Performs hardware and software upgrades; this includes downloading security patches and monitoring anti-virus software.
- Supports the test and evaluation of new technologies as directed.
- Provides e-mail and phone support.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
- Models and maintains high ethical standards.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment/Salary: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
