Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity Job Description

Position: ReStore Manager Location: Crossville, TN

Reports To: Executive Director Classification: Non-Exempt - Hourly

Purpose of the Position: To promote Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity’s (CCHFH) mission and goals as mandated by its Board of Directors while maintaining integrity, rules, and standards. The ReStore Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the ReStore, supervision, and training of staff and volunteers, and overall business performance of the ReStore, with a focus on the acquisition, marketing, and sale of quality donated goods. The ReStore Manager is also responsible for ensuring good stewardship of donations by handling them respectfully and pricing items according to CCHFH policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implements established ReStore activities and operations.
  • Works closely with the ReStore Committee on store policies and equipment needs.
  • Reconciles cash register daily and prepares accurate accounting and deposit records of daily ReStore receipts.
  • Effectively utilizes the Thrift Cart Point of Sale System.
  • Is familiar with all office equipment functions (copier, fax, adding machines, and cash register) and is proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Supervises and schedules ReStore staff to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
  • Works with the Warehouse Manager in ongoing training of ReStore volunteers.
  • Develops and trains ReStore staff to provide backup coverage as needed.
  • Ensures volunteers have an engaging and rewarding experience.
  • Communicates with ReStore volunteers via email, telephone, and in person.
  • Maintains a clean, professional, and work-focused atmosphere in the CCHFH office.
  • Updates the price guideline book at the end of each year and as needed.
  • Monitors and orders supplies within the budget.
  • Arranges dumpster pick-ups as needed.
  • Ensures the store is clean, organized, and welcoming each day, including carts and register area, and maintains a safe environment for customers.
  • Examines donations for cleanliness and prices them consistently with the price guide.
  • Checks the store daily to ensure items are priced correctly, adjusts pricing as needed, and modifies displays to showcase merchandise attractively.
  • Adjusts prices of slow-moving products according to policy.
  • Ensures the rear dock is kept clear and clean.
  • Provides a positive experience for donors when accepting donations.
  • Works with the Donations Coordinator to ensure the right type of donations are received.
  • Works with the Development Director to align advertising and marketing with ReStore needs.
  • Collaborates with the Volunteer Coordinator to secure necessary volunteers for the ReStore.
  • Provides knowledge assistance when appropriate staff is unavailable, informing visitors about CCHFH’s purpose and programs.
  • Assists in promoting the affiliate at community events, fairs, and shows.
  • Regularly communicates and reports to the Executive Director regarding ReStore staffing and operations performance.
  • Implements needed changes as assigned by the Executive Director.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: High School diploma required.

Experience: At least two years of retail management experience.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with ReStore customers, volunteers, paid staff, committees, the Board of Directors, and the community in a welcoming, professional, and positive manner.
  • Success in managing people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of retail pricing strategies.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Financial knowledge sufficient to understand ReStore financial reporting, budget preparation, and monitoring.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to create and execute plans.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move and handle boxes of donated merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Reliable transportation and insurance on your vehicle.

Other Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of the economic conditions in Cumberland County.

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with an additional day off during the week. The ReStore is open Monday-Saturday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Benefits:

  • Paid Vacation: 5 days the first year, with additional time added thereafter.
  • Paid Holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Good Friday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
  • Paid Sick Days: 1 day for every 2 months of employment after completing the 90-day probation period.
  • Insurance: An individual insurance supplement for medical and dental coverage is available after 90 days. A Medical Expense Reimbursement plan is also offered to help offset deductibles and co-payments.
