Examples of Duties
- Provides reader’s advisory and pre-selects materials for HDS customers to be available for their next visit based on customer preference and/or requests
- Processes holds from all CCPL locations for resource sharing
- Packs and prepares materials for shipment
- Registers new accounts and updates existing library accounts for HDS customers
- Evaluates requests for additions to the HDS route; makes recommendations for adding or declining customer requests for the service
- Loads and unloads the Home Delivery Service Van to deliver materials directly to patrons, as needed
- Participates in NC Cardinal resource sharing activities
- Attends outreach events as assigned and promotes library services and programs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of operation and use of various audiovisual and computer equipment; use of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of safe highway driving
- Knowledge of purposes and use of libraries; including Dewey Decimal System
- Knowledge of library collection
- Knowledge of current resources and content available on library website
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing clearly and effectively
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and management
- Ability to operate the library automation system and the online public catalog
- Ability to work without constant supervision
- Ability to know when and how to refer customers to proper staff member for assistance
- Ability to maintain accurate statistics and prepare routine reports
- Ability to make simple arithmetic computations
- Ability to use computers, competently manipulate keyboard and spell accurately
- Ability to inspect a motor vehicle to ensure safe operation
- Ability to operate motor vehicles to include a large cargo/passenger van
Conditions of Employment:
Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
Successful candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment with Cumberland County must pass pre-employment screenings, including criminal history checks and drug screenings, as required by Cumberland County Policies and Procedures, prior to beginning work or receiving a final offer of employment.
