TITLE: HVAC Mechanic I
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of high school or equivalent and five years of experience in the heating and air conditioning trade, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Skilled in the diagnosis and repair of defective systems and controls. Individual should be working to earn H-3 license.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
With limited supervision, installs, maintains, alters, and repairs heating, air and ventilation systems using proper work methods, testing devices and tools. Equipment includes self-contained package units, heat pumps, fan coil units, gas packs, compressors, convectors, air handlers, pumps, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, ductwork, exhaust fans, energy recovery units, economizers, dampers, VAV boxes, VFDs, etc.
Troubleshoots and repairs electric control circuits, using electrical test devices.
Replaces faulty thermostats, wiring, and controls.
Checks accuracy and calibrates electrical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems.
Conducts preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment to include cleaning, lubricating, balancing and part replacement (i.e. belts and filters).
Troubleshoots mechanical equipment to properly diagnose malfunctions.
Makes estimate of time and materials needed for work to be performed.
Supervises the work of helpers assisting with various phases of the work and coordinates work with other trades as necessary.
Forms metal sheeting into duct, connects, and installs.
Uses recycle and recovery equipment in compliance with EPA Refrigeration Recovery regulations.
Possesses capability of reading blueprints and wiring diagrams.
Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee must be able to demonstrate the following physical demands to safely and productively perform the essential functions of the HVAC position. The job requires constant standing/walking on even/uneven terrain, material handling/tool use and work from knee to chest level; frequent work from chest to overhead, and below knee level and climbing; and occasional sitting/driving and crawling. The employee must be able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs constantly, 50 lbs frequently and 110 lbs occasionally and rarely up to 160 lbs. The employee must be able to exert push/pull forces up to 110 lbs/force. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces requiring entry to 24” x 24” crawl spaces occasionally. The employee must be able to tolerate the above job demands on a regular schedule and as assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License.
Possess ability to obtain a CDL is requested.
CFC Certification.
