- Offer expert guidance and support to landowners, contractors, builders, and other stakeholders, addressing inquiries related to program activities, regulations, and procedures
- Actively contribute as a member of various boards and committees, collaborating on key decisions and initiatives
- Lead planning studies by gathering and analyzing relevant data, including land use information, legislation, regulations, emerging technologies, census data, geographic details, and project plans, to develop informed planning recommendations
- Present to boards and groups, creating visual aids such as maps, graphs, and charts to effectively communicate key insights and support program-related activities
- Draft and propose ordinances, regulations, and other public policies that align with and advance the goals of the assigned program, seeking approval from the Planning Director and appropriate governing bodies
- Integrate new technologies, including software and hardware, to enhance the efficiency and capabilities of automated information systems within the assigned program.
- Serve as a key liaison with local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring effective communication and collaboration regarding the assigned program
- Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior planners, offering guidance on planning-related tasks and helping to build their professional skills
- Knowledge of the County’s zoning, land use, and other ordinances and codes, especially in their assigned program area
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of community and economic development and public sector planning and/or landscape design
- Knowledge of governmental laws, programs, and services pertinent to the community and economic development and planning processes
- Knowledge of the environmental and socio-economic implications of the planning process
- Knowledge of GIS systems including application of software, hardware and peripherals to planning needs
- Skilled in the collection, analysis, and presentation of technical data and planning recommendations
- Skilled in conflict resolution, meeting facilitation, and public presentations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups, federal, State, regional, County officials, and the general public
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and studies
- Ability to express ideas effectively

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
