Supervises: Office Staff as directed by Treasurer & Deputy Treasurer
Job Summary:
Second Deputy is responsible for overseeing state licensing within the department, hotel tax collection and distribution, assisting with accounts receivable functions within the department, and assisting Treasurer and First Deputy as needed or in their absence.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in issuing state licenses. Requiring an understanding of the State laws associated with each program.
- Performs audits of daily licenses for reports, enters data into computer, and monthly completes reporting on the licensing programs for submission to the State.
- Operates computer, calculator and other office equipment as required to perform essential job duties including word, excel and proprietary programs utilized in licensing activities.
- Accurately tracks, balances, and compiles information related to the collection of the hotel tax. Acts as a liaison with individuals/organizations subject to this requirement. Balances associated accounts monthly.
- Receives department monies and enters transactions into computer.
- Signs checks in absence of Treasurer and First Deputy.
- Act as a backup for the Bingo & Small Games of Chance functions of the office, requiring a knowledge of the State law covering the program.
- Acts as a secondary approver for banking functions for 30 deposit accounts managed by the office.
- Interacts daily with internal and external government offices and public.
- Answers phone calls and routine department questions or directs callers to appropriate individual.
- Services customers at counter with a variety of department needs.
- Coordinates supplies, reporting, and tracking of dog license sales with various agents across the county. Looks for areas of need and proactively reaches out to potential new agents.
- Prepares and types various reports as required.
- Attends meetings and training as required.
- Assists with other accounting or computer duties as needed.
- Orders office supplies as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements to Perform the Work:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus some computer and bookkeeping skills required. Associate degree in accounting preferred.
Work Experience:
- 1-2 years’ experience, working in bookkeeping, accounting and/or county government or any acceptable combination of work and/or experience.
