Job Description
Job Title: Housekeeper
Department: Housekeeping
Shift: Various
Reports To: Housekeeping Director
FLSA Status: Hourly
SUMMARY
The Housekeeper shall, under direct supervision of the Housekeeping Director, maintain standards with respect to cleanliness and sanitation of the facility, and do related work as required. This individual may be assigned to specific areas throughout the facility.
Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter
A mandated vulnerable adult reporter of maltreatment, neglect, abuse of vulnerable residents/tenants. Required to report any alleged maltreatment, neglect, or abuse to your supervisor and appropriate state agencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Keeping a neat overall appearance of surroundings.
· Emptying and washing wastebaskets.
· Washing windows on the inside and screens.
· Caring for all drapes.
· Clean entryways.
· Dusting and mopping floors and walls.
· Disposing of rubbish.
· Disposing of Chux on weekends.
· Keeping all woodwork throughout the home free of duct and dirt.
· Keeping toilets, mirrors, washbasins, urinals, and shower stalls in sanitary condition.
· Polishing all brass, chrome and glass panels.
· Keeping drinking fountains clean and polished.
· Vacuum carpeting in all areas of the facility.
· Shampoo carpeting in all areas of the facility.
· Clean dining room table basses and legs.
· Clean all chairs in the dining room.
· Clean all furniture in the common areas.
· Vacuum and clean all air vents.
· Clean stove and sinks in the activity room.
· Clean outside area of the nurse’s stations.
· Dust and clean lights over nurse’s stations.
· Maintenance of Bird Aviary.
· Taking special care of costly equipment.
· Reporting needed repairs.
· Follows instructions willingly, able to meet deadlines, organizational loyalty, honesty, punctual, and dependable.
· Must be able to use standard cleaning equipment.
· Must have initiative to determine cleaning needs.
· Must be able to communicate well and processes information accurately.
· Adheres to Federal/State regulations and guidelines, including Resident Rights.
· Has a pleasant manner and high degree of grooming and hygiene.
· Must be able to work well with others and maintain harmonious relationships with co-workers.
· Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations, without posing a direct threat to other employees, residents, or self.
· Reporting accidents.
· Attending Inservice and safety meetings.
· Performing related duties.
· Replenish supplies when necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Considerable training and/or experience doing institutional housekeeping services.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
· Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
· Must be able to deal effectively with stress created by noises and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant demeanor. (Continuously)
