Description
The Currier Museum of Art seeks an experienced curator to lead its active and engaged curatorial department, which presently consists of three senior curators, a designer/preparator, a registrar, a curatorial assistant, and support staff. The museum encourages its curators to work collaboratively and across fields to develop creative thematic displays and exhibitions, to build the collection (through gift or purchase) in a range of relevant fields and media, and to engage audiences. The museum has significant holdings in paintings, sculpture, decorative arts (craft ceramics and glass), photography, New England historic art, and cross-cultural art. The successful candidate will direct and manage the museum’s exhibition program, administer the department, and chair the team of curators.
This position requires a highly creative and collaborative leadership style; commitment to a strong partnership working with education, philanthropy, operations, and the director; experience planning and leading an exhibition program; and curating and acquiring in specialist areas.
The Chief Curator will:
- have strong expertise in several areas of art history.
- experience in one or more of the museum fields of focus:
o historic European art (Renaissance to 20th century)
o North American art (17th century to present, including Mexico, Canada, and the region)
o Frank Lloyd Wright (2 houses in the collection), and international contemporary art (including the artist-in-residence program).

Requirements
MA or PHd in relevant field. Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills. Outgoing and enthusiastic; strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with various constituencies both internally and externally; positive attitude and a sense of humor; discretion and a commitment to confidentiality and ethical behavior.
Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
